I'm looking for housing in NYC for a summer internship. A student housing complex called "ehs" or "Educational Housing Services" was recommended. Has anybody stayed at any of their locations in NYC before? The only available location that they have at the moment is for the "Third Avenue Residence" on the upper east side of Manhattan.

Does anybody have any info about this place or stayed there before? I checked their website and it looks pretty nice but there's no better source of info than hearing from somebody that's stayed there before or knows somebody that has.

Hi, uf4ever,

I looked briefly at the website for EHS. The Upper East side residence 1760 Third Ave. sounds and looks like a nice building to live in. However, I want to caution you that even though it states the location is part of Yorkville, it also mentions that the building is 2 blocks away from the 96th St. Lex Ave subway station, which tells me that it is right at the border of Yorkville and Spanish Harlem. I am assuming it is E. 94th St. since it states the building is in Yorkvile. E. 98th St. is solidly in Spanish Harlem (imo). I am not sure the area will be very safe if you have to walk around late evenings.

The second issue is that the summer rate is $4000 for a double without a kitchen, along with a $250 membership rate. How long do you need to stay in NYC? IF it is not for the whole summer, it may be cheaper to go with NYU housing as a non-NYU student with doubles (with a kitchen and a/c) at around $285 a week. Check the NYU Summer Housing website for choices provided to non- NYU students. It may be better for you to go with the NYU options if you need to stay for a shorter period than the whole summer. And even if it is for the entire summer, even if NYU housing is a little more expensive (maybe), you will have much better and safer locations than what EHS offers.

Oops, sorry I just checked the NYU link and you missed applying to NYU Summer Housing by one day. Sorry. :(

I think it is better to check into other options closer to the hub of Manhattan and not in a location that is more iffy in the upper east side. The 90s in the West side is safer but not for the upper East side, as least when it comes to late evening walking. IMHO and I have no direct knowledge of EHS.

I think OP can still call and see if he can get NYU housing. Sometimes they dont fill.
