NYC Summer Internship - "ehs??"

I'm looking for housing in NYC for a summer internship. A student housing complex called "ehs" or "Educational Housing Services" was recommended. Has anybody stayed at any of their locations in NYC before? The only available location that they have at the moment is for the "Third Avenue Residence" on the upper east side of Manhattan.

Does anybody have any info about this place or stayed there before? I checked their website and it looks pretty nice but there's no better source of info than hearing from somebody that's stayed there before or knows somebody that has.

I haven’t stayed at the Third Avenue location, but I have toured it and I know it’s EHS’s most recently renovated building. The lobby is really nice and has study rooms and tvs/couches for lounging around, there’s a gym in the building, and there’s a game room with a pool table and stuff. As for the rooms, the size is pretty average for student housing, i think, but all of the furniture is new. and the 3rd ave building is only 2 blocks from the train so it’s really easy to get around and there are 2 grocery stores near it and a bunch of restaurants on 3rd ave.

I did stay at the Brooklyn residence (St.Clark/St.George). I’m actually surprised that the website said the only available location is 3rd ave? The brooklyn building is really big. When people see “Brooklyn” they usually think “oh that’s not the real city” or “oh that’s too far,” but it was actually really fun being there. The building is only one train stop into brooklyn and the train stop is on the same block. The building has all the same ammentites, gym, 24/7 security, study rooms, lounges etc.

The only slight problem I really had was when I got there I couldn’t get the hot water for the shower to work. But I called the RA on duty and he came in a couple minutes and got a maintenance guy to fix it, and it was all fixed within 15 minutes and it didn’t happen again.

A couple blocks down is “Montague” st, which has clothing stores, restaurants, etc. There was no WiFi in the room I stayed in, so I used an ethernet cable, but there’s WiFi in the lobby (where the study room’s and lounges are). I loved hanging out in the lounges and seeing a lot of other students around. The city is definitely an intimidating place if you haven’t been there before, so it helps to have people around you that are your age. Plus, each building has scheduled activities going on like movie nights, a hip hop class, and trips to places around the city like the Met.

Sorry that was a novel, but hope it helps!

1760 is a great building. I am currently living at the St George location in brooklyn but have lived at the Nyer and Marymount and have toured the 1760 building. The rooms are a good size and the staff was really nice. I have enjoyed living with EHS as a whole, my school recomended it and I have stayed with them for 2 years now.

Another cool thing about the 3rd avenue residency that I noticed was that they had an option of having kitchenettes in their rooms which makes things much more convient. The location is beautiful and quiet and I would definately recomend it.

Best of luck. hope this helped!

How much do the interns have to pay in rent at those places? You all are so lucky to be interning in NYC!

if you check out the EHS site online, you will see that these places are a “pretty penny” and unless you are making ALOT of $$ this summer (or your parents are subsidizing your stay), it is almost impossible to pay these kinds of fees…

I do agree that the accomodations are terrific; just not realistically priced for the salary ranges of paid internships I have heard this summer…
