@andie2017 aw thanks I think I really needed to hear that. loll. But yeah do you think you could share your objective stats if you don’t mind and also what major you are going into CAS for. Thanks!
@goldfishy19 I don’t think your SAT score is safely good for CAS. If your score is above 1450, then you can say it is relatively ok. For whatever reasons, NYU’s NY campus saw a dramatic fall in acceptance rate this year from 35% to 27%. It means more intense competition.
In general, NYU is one of the rare schools where ED acceptance rate is almost similar to RD accept %. Don’t know why but it has been the trend. So if you want to apply ED to NYU, check the numbers for this year. Unless ED rate is significantly higher than RD % and NYU is an absolutely must-go school for you, use your ED option prudently by applying to other school.
Is this thread still alive? Anyway, I’ve just been mulling over my potential decision to even apply to NYU. My test scores are not outstanding and my GPA is pretty good. ECs are, I think, very good. But hearing about NYU’s not-so-friendly financial aid system makes me a little less optimistic… Of course, I could think of a million reasons why I want to go to NYU, but I’m way too poor for the suburbs I live in, let alone a university in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Should I just be looking at less expensive colleges? … If not, catch me putting “NYU 2022” in my Instagram bio haha!
I would love to reply with like don’t apply to this school since I’m applying too but I’m in the same position and I would say apply like you never know what will happen. There’s always a way if there’s a will to succeed in you. Also what’s everyone’s instagram so we can make like an NyU 2022 dm thing gripchat for questions or would that be weird?
You guys should definitely apply even if you aren’t sure. I will be attending NYU in the fall and I was in the same position last summer. I applied RD bc I didn’t think I would get enough aid ( I come from a solid middle class family, but my parents weren’t willing to pay $70,000 especially when I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill in state). I had a 3.7 uw GPA and a 29 ACT (so nothing amazing). I was accepted to NYU CAS with a $40,000 CAS need/merit based scholarship and that made the school more affordable and now I can go. So you honestly never know…
Applying ED II this fall!
I’m class of 2020, but am joining anyway.

Uh, NYU is REALLY BIG ON SATs
re-stating that you should apply anyway if money is your only concern because you never know!! DEFINITELY add less expensive options to your college list and DEFINITELY don’t put all of your dreams and aspirations on NYU because it might not work out, but if you can afford the application fee and it’s really your dream, apply anyway. NYU was at the bottom of my list because I refused to get excited about it because I “knew” we couldn’t pay for it. People would ask the college I’m applying for and I would say “…oh, and NYU, but even if I get in I won’t be able to afford it so I’m not thinking about it too much.” Even my counselor was skeptical about me applying (because of money) but I assured her I only was because I couldn’t imagine not applying after dreaming about it for 10 years, but I didn’t expect to go. Guess what? They gave me more scholarship than anticipated, and I’m class of 2020. And it never would’ve happened if I didn’t apply in the first place.
Hey guys, is anyone else also applying to NYUAD?
guys if you’re planning on applying to NYU’s Abu Dhabi campus, you should join the official applicants Facebook group! there’s one every year and this year’s one just started! it’s called “NYUAD - class of 2022 applicants” (its the one with the purple icon!) its really helpful every year, for getting tips and advice and discussing with all the other applicants
-this is only for the Abu Dhabi Campus-
Anyone applying to Stern?
does anyone know what kind of SAT score gets you a solid merit scholarship?
@artist03 I don’t think there is really a set SAT score that gets you a merit based scholarship. NYU gives out those scholarships based on how much they want you to go there. So someone that has a lower SAT score but seems more desirable in other aspects of their application may get a higher merit based scholarship compared to someone that has a slightly higher SAT score but lacks in the rest of the app.
NYU doesn’t have explicitly merit based or explicitly need based scholarships, you get money based on a combination of your need and merit. So the students who get the most money are high need and high merit. Likewise, high merit but low or no need students aren’t going to get much. And like goldfishy said, it’s impossible to predict based on SAT alone.
Hi everyone I’m also applying to NYU ED I’m planning on applying to Steinhardt for MCC and I’m pretty nervous
have you guys started working on the common app essay yet? I have a general idea about what I wanna write about but haven’t actually started writing it yet, which is making me kinda nervous
Applying ED for Gallatin… Any other Gallatin applicants??
Hi! Does anyone know if there is a significant difference for acceptance rates between ED1 and ED2? My ACT scores probably won’t make the ED1 deadline and I think my app will be stronger if I apply ED2.
@goldfishy19 I have, but I keep on deleting and restarting so I feel you lol. Some people at my school started writing theirs over summer so that definitely doesn’t help with my anxiety
