NYU Abu Dhabi

silkysilky23, someone in here said that they got 1700+ SATs and still got in!! or am i imagining things? thinking of actually leaving my SATs scores out since so many people didn’t even take the test and got invited to the CW and some even got in…) i mean if the point of the SATs scores is to show the applicant’s abilities to think critically and etc. , the scores must be really high to tip the scale in favor of the applicant, but if the scores are average they may lower the chance to get in, whereas if there are no scores it kind of makes no difference ))) sooo… i think better no difference than hurt chances x)))

murtaza101, thnx for the info) well i’ve taken TOEFL and SAT I, II. i don’t know for sure if it’s offered in kz but i’m already late for IB, if by AP you mean advanced placement, then there’s no such thing here, and a-levels are not offered here either. as far as i know.

@Dzhannet - Hmm, well then submit your SAT IIs and TOEFL scores then, you can opt to remove SAT I scores while sending scores from College Board website btw

i submitted my application for RD on saturday!!!
im hoping to get into a candidate weekend but my parents are still unsure about me going to Abu Dhabi. They dont think i will get the college experience

@Dzhannet: true that!..I think you must go with murtaza101’s suggestion- submitting your SAT II and TOEFL scores…that would surely help!(n thats going to be my last option too…if I do not score well on the SAT I) :)

@sandrasccr: its great that you’ve already submitted your application!
and going to Abu Dhabi or not…is completely your choice!..just research a bit more, if you have any doubts about the college experience and stuff…that would surely help! :)

murtaza101, silkysilky23, thnx, i think i’ll follow your advice)

sandrasccr, congrats on submitting your application!!! i feel like i won’t be able to bring myself to press the submit button ))) i think that you should show your parents Salaam, the nyuad blog) maybe that will lessen their doubts about the college experience )

Good luck to all of those attending the Dec CW! :)

@silky it is partly my parents decision. they are paying at least 25 grand and if they dont like where i choose they may decide not to pay.

has anyone heard back from ed 1? and how was the candidate weekend for those who attended?

do they need all the documents (rec. letters and school transcripts) by 1st of january?
I’m going to send them in two days, and was thinking, if it doesnt arrive on time… will they accept them later…
also one question to insure myself, what we need to send them? only rec. letters and marks, yes?

@NewYorkUAD – No its just an applying deadline, your materials can be received later during the month of January. And yh, the CommonApp includes Secondary School Reports, International Supplement, Early Decision agreement and Midyear Report. If you’ve sent in all of the above mentioned forms, then no worries. Well International Supplement is not necessary, but is really helpful especially if you’re in a non-US educational school
also you can send arts/science portfolios and certificates but you should better check with NYU about it.

Murtaza, thank u veru much)

I guess, the Arts/Sci portfolios are not accepted by nyuad…or am I wrong?

Also, I was wondering if the additional certificates which act as proofs for the honors and activities mentioned on the common app are to be included in this list of documents that are to be sent to the institute?.. and if these copies are to be sent, do they have to be the verified ones just like the school reports?

@silkysilky – I don’t think the honors and all have to be verified cause most big universities usually DON’T spend a lot of money and resources trying to verify people’s extracurriculars as to are they true or not, and its YOUR wish whether to submit the additional certificates to NYUAD. About the art/sci portfolios, you can tell NYUAD through CommonApp that you will be sending portfolios although that way, they’ll have to be sent to all universities you’ve chosen, unless you’ve made alternate versions of the CommonApp.

and yeh!..I am still confused about the honors part…as in what has to be included under the honors section and wht not…

I messaged this query to Comman app…and the following was their response: ‘‘anything awarded by the school can be included’’…
OKAY!..but, I am still confused…whether it has to be academic or non-academic!..I mean, a school can award a student with some non-academic title or honor too!..For instance, some cultural or environmental award…what about that?

Another circumstance would be national and international awards…again, what about them?..they are certainly not awarded by the school!..so, they are to be included or not?..plus, awards earned in what sorts of events or competitions are to be included?..

I am totally confused with this part!..would appreciate any help that I’d receive from you guys! Thank you! :)

or wait a minute…do they have to be listed under the activities section?..uhh…I am confused! :(

haha, and the commonapp was designed to make the applicants’ lives easier ))

okay now one thing, “Activities include” your extracurricular work, NOT your achievements like awards etc., those things go under “Honors”
P.S - This is my century post! ;P

haha…congrats for ur century post!.. :)

and thanks for helping!
