NYU Abu Dhabi

Well… sorry for ignoring the post cardgames!
But I have a problem here,…
I also have the transcript box unchecked. Did anyone figure out why is it so? Btw, my counselor did it online. Should I send it again via snail-mail?
And what about the SAT scores? Did you guys send it? Albert says they haven’t received that too. :(

@internationallie, i think you should go with wat golalago24 posted. It’s right. You have to send the you transcript and SAT scores only through one way! either electronically or through regular mail!!! They got it but maybe it’s cos they have yet to process it. Goodluck!

Sorry, I think I skipped golalago24’s post. Thanks both of you! :)

u welcome!

@golalago24

Are you addressing me? No, I didn’t apply to NYU AD. However, if had gotten rejected/deferred ED by Wharton, I would’ve applied to Stern. I’m kind of disappointed that nobody feels like arguing with me. I’m not trolling you guys or anything, but I seriously want to know if you guys know what you’re getting into. What are expecting from NYU AD? Obviously, you’re going to get a good education (the most important aspect); however, you can find much more at NYU’s main campus and other schools. As a denizen of Abu Dhabi, I’d like to know what people expect from the city and its citizens. Also, as an Abu Dhabi government employee who has to deal with universities and schools, I want to know why NYU AD deserves all the finding we give it.

@ Cardgames, I decided to ignore your earlier comment cos I taught I was tired of arguing my choice of NYUAD out to guys, my friends @ home inclusive. My main reason for applying to NYUAD is that I want to study among people that can challenge me like the type of challenge I got in my highschool which is the only highschool in Nigeria and West Africa (Am not boastful). The way I was challenged made me work harder cos I always wanted to be the best! I do not think the weather in AD is tougher than the one we have in my highschool which is practically built in a mountanous region and in the nothern part of Nigeria! I am so sorry for ignoring your post though! I have tried effortlessly to prove to people why I chose NYUAD. I secured admission to a top college (Federal University of Tech, Minna) in Nigeria and as the best student to be admitted to the college (had the highest in the exams) and I also got admission to Florida Institute of Technology, USA with a scholarship but the college that has always occupied my dreams is NYUAD. I think I have tried!!!

I just got my email invitation to candidates weekend!!! I am so excited. I’m an American who applied regular decision

Congrats! Wish you all the best of luck.

OK Cardgames - I thought I was not going to react to your post - but then, i just can not help myself. We just went to Abu Dhabi this December to visit my son who studies there - because we wanted to see where he was. i had been to the region before, just Egypt and Bahrein - so not a lot - but I have travelled a lot in my life to other countries. My husband, a documentary cinematographer, spend more time in the Middle East and in many more countries. We had a list of interesting places to see in the region, in the end though we did what parents are supposed to do and followed our kid through town and school.
And you are right, I did not find it the most interesting of places I have been to. There was no charm to be had. But then… I saw the ease with which my son got around town. Walking through town, I was amazed seeing him go into little nowhere places and come out with hot tea, fresh bread and pastries. We smelled the trees in the parks and tasted the salt ocean. We saw the fish souk and some of the up-scale malls. He told us about the friends he had in town, the wedding he went to, and how sorry he is (not being a female) not to be able to be part of the students who teach older women english. But he is part of a group who brings supplies to “guest workers” from third world countries. He is not cut off from the realities of life.
And the school and the people in it were great. In the US he lived in a small town with supposedly a lot of ‘old country charm’ but not much to do. There he lives in a town in the Middle East, and not much to do either. Location is a major factor. However, you will not really be in only one place. NYUAD comes with two semesters abroad and two January terms abroad. And in addition to that many courses include study trips to other parts of the world and you can apply for internships elsewhere. So far for my S this meant two trips to India, visits to Katmandu, Jordan and Turkey. He spent the summer of 2011 on a project in NY, paid for, and is currently in Shanghai.
We visited an open night mike and saw the dorms. It looks amazingly like a lot of other schools. No, the real campus is not finished yet, but it didn’t seem to bother any of them. Yes, NYU and other top US schools have a great variety of foreign students. But here there are only around 150 per year. The classes are small and taught by top professors. Whereas in high school you were maybe on top of your class, here you are put together with top students from all over the world. You have to study very hard to keep up and deliver quality work. Yikes, you do not really have the time to go out a lot and party in town.
I understand where you are living and that for you has no great appeal. But for many others in the world it is an incredible place to be and an amazing opportunity. You will find your own great place to continue your study - and no one will argue with you about that place.

Ai! I almost forgot. Florida, where we live, is hot and humid most of the year. Not as bad as AD - still, you make the most of what you get.

@ sinohellenic. Congrats and goodluck!

Wow!! Congrats Sinohellenic! Goodluck for the CW. Btw, when did you submit your app ?

@abudhabi-mama, Great! I knew you would respond to this. :smiley: Yes, AD is not the best place for every one and that’s perfectly fine. You are already in at a great place, cardgames. Congratulations and best wishes! :)

@ sinohellenic, wen did you turn in your application? and please can you post ur stat and SAT scores? Am on tension nw!!!

I keep hearing people finding Abu Dhabi “dull and boring”, but I guess it really depends on what kind of person you are. Living in Abu Dhabi, you have the opportunity to watch a whole nation rise and participate in its economical, social and political growth. Think about all the projects under construction here in Abu Dhabi: The Guggenheim, the Louvre, Masdar City (already completed)… It’s slowly but surely becoming a Global city.
As for the students, I don’t know if any other university counts 150 people from 39 different countries in their freshman class! And one of the greatest things about NYUAD is that everyone has this eagerness to discover other cultures! I’ve been to lots of places that reunite people from all around the world, only to realize that people from the same origins tend to stay together, it’s sad but true. NYUAD is far from this…Most of the freshmen I talked to during the CW, who’ve been taking Arabic classes, can already read and write Arabic!!! It’s an enormous achievement!

As far the campus goes, I don’t know if you’ve visited the Dowtown campus or Sama Tower, but it just doesn’t get any better than this. Everything you can ever dream of is there! And that’s just the temporary campus! I can’t wait to see the new one, which will be located just a few meters away from the Guggenheim and the Louvre. What’s not to like, really?

I applied RD and sent out my app on dec 21. I have a 2320 SAT score, 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.9 weighted GPA, and I’ve taken 13 APs so far, and have scored 12 5’s.

I cannot wait to go to CW and visit Abu Dhabi!!!

Oh and also, the dates of my CW are jan 26 - 29

Congrats, Sinohellenic! You’re gonna have the time of your life :wink: (and little sleep, but who cares, really? :p)

hey guys. i’m an applicant from japan and just got invited to the january CW. very excited.
and fyi i submitted my application late December and I’m an ED 2 applicant. what is the rate that gets accepted from CW?

My transcript is still unchecked at the NYU Albert, although the Common app shows that NYU has downloaded all my forms…

@talhasami
It’s fine, I asked and they said that they just take time to get processed. Mine are also unchecked but when I emailed them they told me that they have received them. So I don’t think you should worry…
