NYU Acceptance Rate Drops to 15% for the Class of 2024

"The Class of 2024 will be the most selective and diverse in the University’s history.

The acceptance rate for the Class of 2024 fell to 15% — the lowest in NYU history — as shown by admissions decisions released on Monday.

NYU extended admission offers to 13,000 prospective students after reviewing 85,000 applications for the first-year admission into the Class of 2024. The median SAT score for the incoming class is 1500, the highest median in admission history. Only 6,700 students are expected to enroll for Fall 2020 in all campuses.

The acceptance rate dropped 1% below last year’s 16%, which had dropped 3% from the class of 2022 admissions rate.

The university maintains last year’s record levels of diversity: 9% of admitted students are African-American and 18% are Latinx. The report added that no ethnic group made up more than 20% of total students admitted to the New York campus and 18% of admitted students were first-generation college students.

The press release also stated that three of the 11 undergraduate schools had acceptance rates in the single digits." …

“Those admitted to NYU’s Class of 2024 come from 133 countries and 49 states.”

49 states ?

P.S. Will there be a rush to rent apartments / buy houses in the missing 50th state ?

I think it was the same last year, from all 50 states the prior year to that.

Maybe worth noting the absolute number of admits rose around 700 from class of 2023, with the same expected number of freshmen, so they’re obviously expecting a slightly lower yield.

Does anyone know which state is not represented in the NYU Class of 2024 ?

Does anyone know how the 85k in number of applicants compares with other schools? We had understood that UCLA had the most number of applicants of all of the US schools with 100k.

Last year’s list https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/the-short-list-college/articles/colleges-that-received-the-most-applications

Although note the actual numbers are from 2018 cycle, not last year.

Dominated by UCs i guess because of the one application you can use for all of them.
