Hi. I applied to NYU AD early decision and I decided to go. I was invited to visit and loved the students, faculty, and the campus. The diversity of the students will absolutely make the school incredible. When I went there were about 55 people from 38 different countries. Someone pointed out, “imagine having a discussion about democracy a class with people from China, France, Germany, Russia, the United States, ect.” The wealth of knowledge coming from each student and their experiences is what I look most forward to.
While the student body is small–only one hundred students–the size will allow for a more personalized education (class sizes of no more than 8). The city of Abu Dhabi has so much to offer as well so that the small size doesn’t feel restrictive, plus only 2 hours away in Duabi there are hundreds of other students studying abroad.
As for the costs, you will graduate debt free. If you can prove that you can’t afford to attend, the school will offer you generous financial support (plus scholarships) to make matriculating at the school a possibility. Support includes two roundtrip tickets a year, housing, food, books, and school activities.
Honestly, I can’t wait to begin the new year. I was accepted to a whole bunch of other top-notch colleges in the US with merit scholarships at every one of those schools, but nothing truly compared. At first I was worried about the size of the school and faculty, but after visiting and talking to the administration, I was convinced that NYU Abu Dhabi was the right school for me.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me @ foreverkksquared@gmail.com

Yes. NYU and NYU Abu Dhabi have two independent admission processes. When you fill out the common application supplement for NYU you can check a box to be considered for NYU Abu Dhabi; however, you must also fill out a supplementary application on the NYU website. I hope this helps!

congratz dude … i am going on the february candidate weekend … hopefully ill get to meet u this fall…wish luck :D

thanx for the inputs on NYU AD everyone. What r the SAT scores like for those who r invited? I was worried that the campus is rather small, two large sheds really and a possibility that labs could be ill-equipped. Can anyone who has visited NYU AD clarify on this?

For future reference (hopefully), what kind of attire is needed? Any dinners on the candidate weekend that require a suit?

The handbook said to dress conservatively (i.e. no short-shorts, miniskirts, cleavage, excessive skin, etc.) and to pack one business formal outfit for a dinner in the Emirates Palace.

http://nyuad.nyu.edu/pdfs/candidates_feb/PredepartureHandbook.pdf
I believe page 23 talks about the type of attire they expect. :D

The Campus will be well equipped, as they’re gonna use around $500million for equipping modern state-of-the-art labs and classes, and the dorms (well apartments) too, I’ve applied RD myself and got a February CW Invite (sent my app 9 days befor New Year and got the CW invite on 30th Jan, with a mail package delivered on 2nd/3rd Feb (i forgot)
@ notamushroom – u got invited to a CW too, which one??

Notamushroom I got invited for which CW and from where are u ?

Leadthechange any news yet I hope to meet u haven’t received ur invite yet or what ?

hi!! february candidate weekenders, what countries are you from?
im from australia - see some of you in about 13 days!!
got my email today, so bloody excited, lol~

@sora2712 — Hi, Nice to see u, hopefully i’ll be meeting u in Feb CW, i’m from Pakistan and studying in Abu Dhabi itself.

candidate weekend is for…people who applied to AD or for all regular deadline applications? What type of stats do you guys have who have gotten invited?

The Candidate Weekend is yes of course for the ones who applied to NYUAD either solely or being considered along with the NY campus but NOT TO all applicants regardless of Early Decision or Regular Decision, my handbook said that the invite was made if your application has been completely reviewed and you have submitted the NYUAD Admissions Portfolio. Well the stats are really high and depends on your qualification whether you gave A-Levels or IB or SAT I and II or whatever scores you submitted but the overall application matters
@notamushroom – Hi, are you invited or were you invited to a CW, mind sharing some information with us :P

I’m from Atlanta, Georgia and I’m going to the February CW! I am so unbelievably excited, I remember freaking out when I first heard about NYUAD because I’d just visited Abu Dhabi and loved it so much, and now I get to go back! Can’t wait to meet everyone there :D

Also, does anybody have any idea what the admissions rate will be for people invited to CW?

theyve already offered 62 places to the EAs, not sure what the yield rate for them was though.
each candidate weekend has had around 40~50 candidates attending.
i think there were candidate weekends in october, november, and december. as well as january, february, maybe march too? someone correct me if im wrong.
mathematically speaking, assume there have been 300 candidates that have been on a weekend, and that offers will only be made to some of these 300 (I’m including EAers here too).
Assuming a 70% yield rate (like Yale and Princeton, approx.), with 100 to be chosen, about 143 offers will be made. 62 offers have already been made, that means for the rest of us, 81 more offers will be made.
so the admissions rate for RD CWers will be 81/(300-62) = approx. 34%
In retrospect, this wasn’t a very clear explanation and could be completely off the mark.
feel free to upbraid my complete lack of logical argument. loll.
but people, the main point is:
WE’RE GONNA HAVE FUN IN NYU, ABU DHABI.

THEDASHASH - No official word yet, but I did just have a Panda Express fortune cookie which said, “You will soon travel out of the country” haha.

My D is probably going to be disappointed. She just checked the box for AD on the NYU supplement. I don’t think she realized there was an additional supplement to submit. Everything works out for a reason.

HAHAHA…lol dont worry i think the panda fortune never mistakes :P

I just got my invite to the March candidate weekend yesterday. Is anyone else going? And is there any significance to being invited to the March one as opposed to January or February? It’s less than two weeks before decisions are supposed to be mailed out.

@kty421: How did you get your invitation for the CW?

congratulations kty421 !! ull have so much fun there…and dont worry for the people who will be there with u…u will get contacted shortly to accpet an invitaition for a private group on facebook with all the people who are going with you on this CW…HAVE FUN AND RELAX :D
