I am an International student from Australia applying to NYU (most probably Steinhardt) for 2013 admission on Early Decision. I am currently at an 1810 SAT score, but will be re-sitting in October and hopefully will be able to bump up my maths score so that I am able to obtain around 1950 (I am currently sitting on: 680 CR, 490 Maths, 640 Writing, 12 Essay). I currently take the International Baccalaureate, but realise that this may potentially have no bearing on my application, as I do not receive my IB results until January 2013. I have also undertaken an intensive and extensive community service activity and project over the past 2 years. I was wondering what I would need to do to maximise my chances at NYU, given that my SAT scores are not incredible. Thank you :)

What other ECs are you involved in? What are your grades like. I think if you got a good math prep book and pulled a 200 point increase you have a decent shot. If it is your first choice ED it.

We do things very differently in Aus in regard to grades, and because I do the IB its even more confusing, but I’m top 10% and I am getting overall good grades for the IB. Is it possible to improve that much on the SAT?

It is possible to get a perfect score from a 1700. My cousin did it. Buy the right prep books and study and you’ll be good. Dr. Chung’s SAT Math is good and will almost guarantee you a 200 point math increase. Your math score is pretty low, so it should be easier to raise.

thank you so much for your advice, i really appreciate it
