NYU College of Arts and Sciences, Umichigan LSA, Georgia Tech chances?

GPA: ~92.3

ACT: 31 composite, 32 superscore

Subject test: waiting for math 2 sat subject test score but no colleges require it so I won’t report if its below 700. Did get a 720 for math 1 and 680 for US history but idk if I should report that, suggestions?

Essay: Very good common app essay, 99/100 according to teacher, one point off just because of one little grammar mistake :stuck_out_tongue:

EC:
-Internship at ConEdison (New York City Power company, 13 students selected out of 100+)
-Muslim Interscholastic Tournament NY, second place medal for social media competition
-Model UN
-Cyber security club
-Muslim Student Association
-Chess club
-Attended Hackathons such as CSAW high school forensics hackathon, hosted by NYU, didn’t win tho

Volunteer:
-Mosque
-School library
-ECPAT (human trafficking prevention organization, created a website for them)

Honors:
-Honor roll every year at school
-Certified in AutoCad (dunno if it counts but I got certification from school classes and everyone’s putting it)

AP’s: 4 AP classes in total

High School Profile:
I go to a very competitive High School in New York, I had to take a test just to get in. The High School offers lots of courses that other schools don’t offer such as Drawing and design production (where I got my autocad certification), Digital electronics, Oracle SQL class, Web Development, AP Java, and cyber security(it offers a lot more but I only listed the ones I took). It’s one of the nine specialized high schools in nyc and its harder than other high schools so my GPA is lower, sadly, but my school said that the high school profile that they send to colleges will make colleges understand that this is a very competitive school and the lower GPA would be more understandable.

Trying to major in comp sci at college, chance me guys, and thank you!

Now for actual chancing. The fact that you went there means that you’re something special to begin with. If you have a good counselor rec, that would be amazing, because that school is HUGE. Your ACT may be a tad low, but I think everything else compensates. I’m guessing your major in HS was computer science?

EDIT: I didn’t see your post until after I edited and reposted, lol. Sorry for putting that out there. I am kind of a large idiot. By kind of I mean very much.

@awesomepolyglot yes it was comp sci, and my guidance counselor is actually really bad. I know more about the college process than her, she’s not very helpful. But for act, a 31 is about a 2060 and a 32 is about a 2100 when converted into sat according to the act website. I’ll still try to retake but I think this is the highest I can get, but I’ll still try.

The highly specialized comp sci classes you’ve taken will help, given that they show great rigor and prior knowledge, in addition to likelihood that you’ll do something great.

^probably. Admissions are weird.

@awesomepolyglot what are you referring “^probably. Admissions are weird.” to? Also thanks for keeping my privacy, even I forgot about that lol

By “Admissions are weird” I mean that a kid who made a nuclear reactor in his garage didn’t get into MIT.

@awesomepolyglot yeah everything is holistic and weird and you never know, always gotta hope for the best :)>-

I want almost everybody on CC to get in, lol. Here’s hoping that you do and are happy where you end up. Happy thanksgiving :)>-

@awesomepolyglot thanks! and happy thankgiving to u too

do you go tech? lol

@ilovecollege1998 yea u guessed it! But how do I chance please please tell me

I don’t think GPA means as much as the class rank. I mean you can get a 99% GPA but if half of your school is getting that score, it’s not very impressive. But if you get only an 81% and only 3 students get higher than 80% then it’s much more eye-catching. If your school is that competitive, then it should reflect on your class rank, so don’t worry about it.

Frankly, if you are in the top 5% of a (very) competitive high school, then it says a lot more than people with high GPAs in less-recognized schools, I think.

I think you have a decent chance. You seem like their average applicant. It’s gonna be your essay and recs that’ll set you apart.

I didn’t apply ComSci but from what I heard 2 schools in NYU offer ComSci: CAS and Tandon. Not sure which is better or easier or gives more financially. It is a popular major and it could be understood if NYU decided to draw more attention to it (more funds, scholarships, facilities,…) but I don’t get offering the same major in two different schools lol.

@ferrarivettel my school doesn’t report class rank because the whole is huge and very competitive and gives only a very very very select few a good image, ppl with a 98 avg would look pretty bad

Since you are OOS, I would say reach, but certainly not out of reach.

Your GPA and SAT are well within the range of NYU CAS. Solid Ec’s too. Good Luck!
