@bluebayou Aside from the $50,000 scholarship, I received $3000 from work study, and I recently won a $15,000 renewable scholarship which I hope to use towards room and boards if allowed. My church also gives $5,000 to each graduating senior per year (if funds allows it), so I’m not too worried about covering the rest of the bill. I’ll continue applying for more scholarships. I’m also hoping to live in one of the least expensive dorms if it’ll save me any more money. My parents told me to go ahead and accept the offer.
^^before you do anything else wrt college applications, just make sure that NYU will not reduce their $50k grant commitment by your other (outside?) scholarship of $15k.
Hey guys!
Congratulations to everyone who got in.
I am currently working on my “Why NYU” essay for tisch and wondering whether I should include something about liberal core program , as I would like to be considered for both (tisch is my first choice tho). Also , do you think it would be wise to choose more than one alternative program ? I am really interested in various subjects , and still would like to attend NYU if i don’t get into tisch.
@RB55 good morning. I was wondering if you had any success regarding your financial aid? When I called this morning, I was basically told that they made their best offer already. I expected that was the case, but I felt I needed to make certain.
@honeygirl13 I applied to CAS with Gallatin as an alt but I only wrote about my CAS major and the university in general, I didn’t mention Gallatin specifically in my essay. it definitely wouldn’t hurt to write about both, though I personally didn’t and I don’t think they held it against me. best of luck!
@honeygirl13 I actually just thought of this– I was accepted into CAS anyways so I don’t think they ever considered me for my second choice. if they were considering me for it, not having anything in my essay could’ve ended up hurting me after all? I’d mention it just to be safe!
@bluebayou@barkleywater Please, under no circumstances take on massive debts to finance an NYU education. I’ve known several NYU students who are hopelessly in debt (as are their parents) and they now deeply regret their decision. Loans will be with you for years, if not decades. NYU is a fine university but there are many other universities that are just as fine. No undergraduate degree is worth $200,000 in loans.
anyone know how I can access my new nyu email? it said i should be assigned one shortly after confirming my enrollment which I did a couple days ago, but where do I find it?
@exlibris97 Thank you for your advice. I am in total agreement with you. NYU has been exceptionally understanding of our financial issues and concerns. I was able to explain why this wasn’t a possible option for our daughter. They are allowing us out of the binding decision. We are now looking at various affordable public universities in our state. Our goal is no debt for our daughter upon graduation.
@barkleywater I made almost 100 phone calls but I finally got them to agree to reconsider. I was able to prove we had a change in our financial situation since the time I applied. I’ll let you know if they make it affordable.
@RB55 that is great. I hope that they are able to make it possible. If not, it sounds like you have some other good choices. I wish you the best wherever you end up attending.
