NYU Early Decision SAT Subject Tests

I was looking at the CAS 2010-2012 Bulletin (NYU > CAS > Bulletin 2010 - 2012 > Admission) and it said that in order to apply ED, all applicants must submit two SAT subject tests. I have not taken any of these, and ideally would not take them if they are not necessary to apply ED. So my question is, is it mandatory that all applicants applying ED submit two SAT subject tests IN ADDITION TO an ACT with writing/SAT reasoning test?? I know NYU changed their policy, but I specifically want to know if this affects the ED SAT subject test requirement.

I will be applying next fall, for admittance for the fall 2013 semester.

Yes this is true but only for ED

Is this even after the recent change? Why would they make it only required for ED? Well, if that is in fact the case, what scores do I need to get in order to be a competitive applicant? Do I have to submit a math score as one of my two?

I believe so, but I would call and ask if i were you. Generally a math one is recommended, and somewhere above 700 is a trend I’ve been seeing as “competitive”. I’m applying to fall 2013 as well but not for ED so I don’t plan on taking sat subject tests. After reading the website though, it does say that ED needs to submit 2 sat subject tests but idk why… You should call and ask

It is my understanding that NYU does not require SAT subject tests if you take the ACT. I submitted just my ACT with writing and no subject tests.

^ were you ED though?

I’m not sure that that is up-to-date?

If you look at main NYU website: [Standardized Tests](<a href=“Standardized Tests”>Standardized Tests)

You need only submit the SAT.

I’ve never heard of anyone having to submit the SAT AND subject tests.

^ that is over all though but I think sat cas needs subject tests… Idk it’s on the website

I don’t think so. I’ve never seen anyone have to have SAT subject tests and the SAT. Stern is the only one with exceptions. If CAS needed subject tests in addition to the SAT, it would so be stated on the link I provided. It is not.

Given that it’s not stated on the NYU website, in fact, it states quite the opposite and that I’ve never heard of such a thing; I’m going to go ahead and say you need only the SAT.

NYU2103, if you click the link in my initial, it does in fact state that you need to submit 2 sat subject tests. I’ve contacted my regional counselor, who gave me yet again another vague/unclear answer and linked me to the admissions website. I called the admissions office today and they were unsure and directed me back to my regional counselor who was still unsure. So I want to know what admitted ED1 students submitted these scores…

I did NOT Submit SAT2 scores and was admitted CAS Journalism ED1 this year. Definitely not required.

I saw your link, and as I stated, it’s clearly outdated. You don’t need subject tests.

I even provided the official NYU admissions testing requirements link to you.

Thanks so much. Eljamas, just wondering if you submitted SAT or ACT and your score was. Also, when filling out the NYU supplement, what did you fill out for intended area of study, since I too will be applying as journalism major, but in order to do so you have to double major. Is this correct? Do you just write journalism or journalism AND your second major. Sorry, Im just really curious and want to fill everything out correctly

I submitted SAT1.

2170

800 writing/670 math/700 CR

Just select journalism. From what I understand, we determine our second major a year or two into being a NYU student…

If we did take subject tests, what subjects should we take? I’m thinking about taking just US History and Literature. I too want to apply ED for journalism haha.
