@nobody555 it sounds like you have to note Shanghai as an option in order to be considered. I wish I hadn’t but honestly I would have likely been rejected otherwise (My stats are definitely borderline) so it’s all good. Just depends what you are willing to do to go to NYU I guess! For me, I’ll likely decline the offer.
Can anyone tell me more about NYU Shanghai - never heard of it.
But sounds like you get the NYU - NY and NYU -Shanghai degree.
But wouldn’t it be very expensive, since American students would be considered International students for NYU-Shanghai --or are they considered in country --or does it matter since it is a private school.
It seems like a lot of people got accepted into NYU Shanghai on the ED II round…I’m guessing not too many students from ED I went there. I’m just confused on why.
So long NYU…can’t transfer to the NYC campus.
I’m confused, isn’t ED binding so you have to go to Shanghai if that’s where they let you in? I mean, how is there an option to decline the offer?
I also only got accepted to NYU Shanghai… I really wanted to get into Stern. Does that mean I got outright rejected from Stern?
@Colhopeful728 i just got into NYU Shanghai after applying to Manhattan as my first choice. It’s not necessarily more expensive. I didn’t even apply for financial aid at all, and got a 25k scholarship to Shanghai (um Corona virus?) , which put my total cost according to my letter at 71k. Which is obviously crazy, but also slightly less than I would have paid without any aid in the village. Hope this helps.
Are we not addressing the fact that no one wants their kids to go to China right now? I’m not saying it’s fair but it’s definitely different from other years. See my earlier post that there would be more Shanghai acceptances than usual and I’m one of them. Just sayin.
If it’s a second choice option it’s not binding, but you have to decide by the same time as the deposit deadline for other ED2 admits.
“If you are offered admission to NYU Shanghai as an alternate campus of interest, you will be released from the binding agreement but will be asked to either accept or decline your offer of admission within 25 days of receiving it.”
Unfortunately yes. According to what we were told by NYU, they consider your applications in order, and only go to your second choice if they turn you down for your first choice.
Hi everyone!!
Having been following this forum for a while and seeing everyone’s great stats (SAT scores specifically), I had very low expectations of getting accepted to NYU.
Today I found out that I got in as a journalism major, my first choice!!
Here are my stats for reference—I think it goes to show that you don’t necessarily need good SATs to get in. I think I got in specifically because my essays were well-written, and I gave a very specific account of why I wanted to attend NYU. Keep in mind that I am an asian-american female (I also thought that this would most likely serve in my detriment lol). I am not low-income, an immigrant, international, etc…
SAT: 1320 (600 math, 720 english)
GPA: 3.9
Letters of Rec: one I read was OK, the other I never saw
APs: I only took 2 APs and score 4s on both of them (APUSH & AP Lit)
Essays: for my Common App Essay, I focused on ideas of the American Dream and my journey as a musician—this wasn’t even related to my major, so I was worried about that.
In conclusion, to anyone out there applying regular decision who is doubting their capabilities or chance of getting in, don’t doubt yourself just because you didn’t do well on the SAT!!! NYU is looking for individuals and people who show dedication to their passions. To anyone that didn’t get in—wishing you the best! I strongly believe that everything that happens is meant to be. I have been rejected from MANY programs throughout my life, and I’ve learned to persevere. Keep going!
I read online that NYU recommends you to accept another choice where you accepted. So paying the deposit and stuff.
@nobody555 thank u I was just about to post that. No. I’m not obligated to go to China. Only binding if you get your first choice of campus.
I’m not sure about that, we had a lot of Shanghai acceptances last year. Like this year, there seemed to be a number of applicants who didn’t really want to go there but put the option down anyway. I think they give a lot of offers precisely for that reason - that a lot of people turn it down once offered.
Lol, yes, that did go through my mind when my daughter told me she got accepted into NYU-Shanghai – My jerk reaction was “NO”
But if the corona virus dies down when it gets warmer, and everything goes back to Normal, then is NYU-Shanghai even worth it.
Based on google search, there was an article that they gave American students pretty much full ride when they first started the NYU - Shanghai branch. I am just wondering if that is the same case now. My daughter said they didn’t provide a Financial Aid letter with the offer.
@SJ2727 fair enough. I don’t know any other years’ stats, to be honest, just going on instinct and common sense.
@Colhopeful728 thank you for acknowledging the issue may be different this year. I’m not saying it’s a bad option but to pretend it isn’t a factor at all? I don’t know. I feel like it may be? Anyway, good luck in all your decisions. NYU is an awesome school but I’m probably going to pass and go to UMD College Park. Best of luck everyone!!
I got rejected…congrats everyone who did get in…as for the entire nyu shanghai thing I’m gushing it’s because they expect a lot of people to withdraw because of the corona virus so they’re accepting more people because they’re expecting a low yield
NYU Shanghai is probably on the unlikely list for now. We have two weeks to decide, so we will take the full time to see how much money they give. Very risky times right now on the corona virus and no idea when the travel ban will be lifted.
Scientists still have not figured out how the corona virus is transmitted and they don’t know if the warmer weather will kill the virus either.
I guess, I can at least say she got accepted into NYU.
@Colhopeful728 lmao. My thoughts, verbatim. Happy I even got in in! Woohoo! And it’s not even the Corona Virus that matters most (other than the fact that that’s honestly why I probably got in) to be honest. I just can’t imagine going to China in September. For me. For those who can, more power to you and best of luck! ?
