Is Gallatin easier to get into? I’ve heard it’s much like a Hampshire College within NYU. I have a 3.4 UW/3.7 W, 27 ACT (might take again), no subject tests. I also had extenuating circumstances, I wrote my essay on that (focused on resilience, letting go of identifying myself by fleeting labels, etc.) My writing is my strongest point and if anything, my Common App essay and the supplementals will be what gets me in. Do they look at apps more holistically? Do they look for a certain kind of person? Is there dorming?

Also, I have many interests which naturally, leads me to Gallatin. I’ll probably end up going to Hampshire College. I’m interesting in psychology, literature/creative writing, and women’s studies. I’d love to study how reading books/memoirs about mental illness affect adolescent girls psychologically, among many, many other things.

i don’t think Gallatin is easier to get into. In fact i’ve been told that although Gallatin may review your app and accept you, NYU in general may reject you.

aside from stats i believe that Gallatin heavily focuses on the application as a whole. they look for a certain person, someone who is independent and thrives to build their own plan of study. i did a lot of independent work during my high school years and i made sure to let Gallatin know that.

there are dorms at NYU. (founders, rubin, hayden, uhall, weinstein, goddard, and 3rd north) depending on what your budget is and what you’re looking for should determine which dorm you choose.

i believe that the subjects you’re leaning to study are interesting. make sure you do the optional Gallatin essay where you can explain what you want to study and how Gallatin is the ideal place to create it.

Hi, do you mind if you share your stats? Because I just saw your post in another forum and it says you received $46,000. And how did you apply to HEOP? What does it mean to be educationally disadvantaged?
Thank you!

i do not remember my stats ( i might’ve posted it sometime last year if you want to do your research) but to inform you about HEOP. It’s a program that helps new york state residents with low income pay for college. so they help you get more scholarships and more grants.

how low does it have to be?
is $30,000 low enough? lol
thank you!

of members in household Total annual income in

(including head of household) preceding calendar year
1 $20,665
2 $27,991
3 $35,317
4 $42,643
5 $49,969
6 $57,295
7 $64,621
8 $71,947

how important are the supplement questions comparing to GPA and SAT? and also if i am sending my SAT 1 score, do i need to send my sat subject scores? thank you

To copy from the NYU website

NYU seeks talented students from every corner of the globe. Each applicant is expected to demonstrate his/her talents and mastery of subject matter to support his/her applications and to marshal his/her best case for admission to NYU. As a result, NYU has one of the most flexible testing policies of any college or university.

To be eligible for admission, applicants are expected to submit results from one of the following testing options:

The SAT Reasoning Test; or
The ACT with Writing Test; or
Three SAT Subject Test scores; or
Three AP exam scores; or
The International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
Three IB higher-level exam scores (if you are not an IB Diploma candidate); or
Results from a nationally accredited exam that is considered locally to signify the completion of secondary education and is administered independently of the student’s school.

So no, if you submit SATI, you don’t have to submit SAT subject tests.

Okay so today i heard that NYU Poly will no longer be called NYU poly but rather be NYU… Also is it true that people next year who wants to apply to NYU poly would need to apply through the regular NYU application?

Do you know the general Stats for NYU poly for HEOP? I got high GPAs but low SATs.

Do you feel like they guide you at gallatin or that they just kind of throw you out there? What are you majoring/concentrating in?

Hi, I was wondering how hard is it to get into NYU thorugh HEOP, also how exactly do you apply for it?

HEOP students go through the same process of admissions as regular students. So “how hard is it to get into NYU through HEOP?” isn’t such a great question. I would just say that if you’re from new york, a minority, and low-income then you have an advantage; your application will be considered for the OP.

there’s no separate application. on the common app you just check off to be considered for HEOP and I also believe you can print out a form online to have your guidance counselor nominate your for consideration. At the end of the day the admissions committee will choose to refer you to the OP office.

What’s the most popular major? the hardest?

by meeting new people and talking to them i can’t say that i met several people of the same major. i’m just going to say psychology and/or a business related major, since they’re widely popular in all universities.

the hardest? i have no idea. by numbers, the hardest school to get accepted to is Stern. Other schools are just as challenging, they just offer different things and their admissions process is different.

Gallatin optional essay? Where? When?!

Wait, where is the optional essay for Gallatin? If I miss that, I might just die.

Hey Guys,
As a prospective international student from overseas with no standardized test scores done other than TOEFL, NYU Seemed like one of my few options; The problem is the maximum I can pay for college is $5000/annum for the full cost of attendance (room, board, tuition and miscellaneous expenses). Is the financial aid office likely to offer me such a very generous scholarship if my application is highly competitive?
Also, is graduation from here with a 3.5+ GPA likely to get me a spot in an Ivy League Grad School?

Again, what Gallatin optional essay are you referring to? I can’t find that, and I see a lot of admonitions from the school to NOT submit anything optional.

if any of you is an international student, do you know when is the I-20 application form posted online?
