Hi all. NYU is my favorite high probability school, and I am relying on it as a fallback option. I am very interested in the Gallatin school of individualized study, and am thinking of applying to it. Is it harder to gain admission to Gallatin compared to the college of arts and sciences? If so, would I no longer be able to consider NYU as a high probability?
Thank you for your help and please don't stress out! It's definitely not worth it.

gallatin is considered easier to get into than CAS

i disagree. gallatin is known to be the backdoor into stern and tisch. Also it a very different program in comparison with other NYU colleges, let alone other schools period. It is actually more known and more and more kids want an interdisciplinary type program. I know so many people that applied to Gallatin and all are very competitive. I think Gallatin is equally hard, if not harder since you need to be a unique candidate to get accepted, along with stats, ECs etc.

"backdoor into stern and tisch"?............why wouldn't you just go to stern or tisch?
also gallatins sat scores are lower than CAS or stern

If someone wants to study drama and take business courses they get the best of both worlds without having to compete with STERN or TISCH applicants who strictly are applying to those schools. First off, Gallatin scores are the same as the others. Individual scores for the schools were never/will never be posted so your obviously making a complete assumption. And it is a backdoor because everyone knows a stern applicant is the most competitive at NYU, so if you still want business/drama but have other interest then it is an "Easier" (not by much) way to get in. I visited NYU and went to a Gallatin meeting, and I assure you it is very competitive.

on the nyu thread a nyu graduate who worked in the admissions office said that gallatin is easier than cas or stern and has lower sats

as far as I am concerned, a NYU graduate posting scores being lower on CC is not a very reliable source. Everyone is entitled to think what they want. I have to disagree though when saying Gallatin is easier then CAS. I can agree they are equal, or Gallatin being slightly more competitive due to its unique nature, but not the other way around. Atleast if you are not qualified for CAS, they put you in GSP. Gallatin isnt even offered that. If you want to get in NYU easily, their school for Social Work would be the easiest, and even that is competitive. Gallatin applicants are very competitive, unique, and strive for a different undergraduate experience, so considering Gallatin is smaller, and more and more are applying, I would never give off the vibe that it is easy or easier to gain acceptance into.

entitled

anyway ahimsa48, to answer your question, gallatin is not more difficult than CAS to get into

anyway ahimsa48, to answer your question, gallatin is more/equally difficult than CAS when gaining acceptance

lol10chara

This post is out of date, but in todays years, is Gallatin still considered easier to get in than CAS? and how does NYU’s Gallatin program really work? I mean, in CAS, u just simply choose your majors but for Gallatin it seems much more complicated than that.
