NYU Liberal Core Program

Hello, I am an international student, who got accepted in liberal core program.

My first choice was CAS CS, but I got accepted into the study abroad program. So I was wondering some of you from CAS and the core program could have a minute to answer my questions.

Is it possible to transfer to CAS CS after the 2-year program? Is it easy or do I have to meet some requirements? (like GPA)

If it is possible, how’s the transition would be? Is it smooth or you have a problem comparing to students who were working on CS for 2 years in advance?

I was going to get internships starting my sophomore year, if I was directly accepted into CS. (I heard internships are very important to pursue a career after graduation.) However, since, I was accepted into the core program, will I have a disadvantage getting an internship after the transition?

It is just a minor question and quite debatable. NYU was my dream school, but I was also accepted into NEU engineering and BU engineering. What would you choose, if you were in my situation?

NEU eng or BU eng VS NYU liberal core program

Thank you for your reply. Have a nice day.

@Iwantfitbit did you reach any decision? just curious which way you are leaning towards. we are in a similar boat

I’d say if you want to graduate in 4 years, it might be a little tough to get a CS degree while doing the liberal core program. The BA in CS offered from CAS is not as heavy as a BS from an engineering school, but I’m not sure you could make up all the requirements in 2 years. NYU also offers the Joint Major in CS and Math, which is a great option but also increases the course load significantly. If you were taking all your math courses in the liberal core program then it is possible.

I have not decided on NYU yet as still choosing between Binghamton and Manhattan College in the Bronx. But time is running out to make the decision.
