I have been accepted to both NYU and Columbia emba programs, and can't decide which one to attend, as they are both comprable in the polls.

Attending NYU will be a better experience:
1) they take care of every non-acedemic chore (book buying, class registration, meals, etc).

2) They have a very personal touch - they get to know the student and cater to the student. I won't be just a number.

3) They have always been in the shadows of Columbia, and have been rising in the rankings. They try harder to please.

4) Some people mistaken NYU as a state school.

I would get a better education and experience with NYU, but not the Ivy branding

Columbia is an Ivy:
1) Columbia has been falling in the rankings - but IVY!

2) By blue collar father says - he has heard of Kellog, Harvard, Wharton, and NYU business schools - never Columbia

3) Columbia is an Ivy.

Any advice - which school would you accept and why.
Given emphasis on the branding at the graduate level, and the life long bradnign that it carries, does Columbia carry more weight than NYU?

I wouldn't too much stock on the fact that Columbia is an Ivy when it comes to branding. After all, I would say that a NYU Stern MBA has (slightly) more prestige than does a Yale MBA.

I wouldn't also go too much by what your father says. No disrespect to him, but if you were to listen to him, you might end up choosing NYU over, say, Stanford or MIT-Sloan.

Your other point you made, I agree with. It is true that the Columbia MBA has more prestige than does the NYU MBA. And it is true that branding is quite important when it comes to the MBA. I personally would therefore choose Columbia. However, the difference is close, so if you really get a good vibe from NYU, then you should go there.

are you working part-time while doing the MBA program? if so, do NYU cuz it's closer commute to downtown manhattan. if not, i would go for columbia, it's the more respected business school between the two anyway and being an ivy is a plus too. but that's just me. NYU is a great choice too. you seriously won't lose choosing either or.

Personally, I'd choose Columbia, mainly for the (esp. in finance) branding. But, interestingly, I've read that Stern graduates follow career paths that may be more interesting to you (a lot enter food and entertainment). So make sure you have a strong sense of what you want to do after graduation before you make your decision. Both are great schools and, I'd have to agree with the above poster--you do seem to be looking for some justification for NYU. Perhaps this will be it: it's a great school! It's okay to choose NYU over Columbia! But, if you do, make sure it's for the right reasons.
