Hi! I am a transfer applicant and I have been admitted by the CS program of UIUC. I know UIUC is highly rankd in CS but I don't like the location(cornfield,etc.). Since I just notice that the deadline for transfer application of NYU is April 1st, idk if I should apply to NYU as well because I prefer to live in a big city than someplace in the middle of nowhere, and the program at NYU isn't bad as well. I just don't know if this would be a right decision if I choose NYU rather than UIUC just because of the location. Any advice??Thanks:)

I was just in urbana-champaign yesterday.
Even though it is “in the middle of a cornfield” it’s a still a decent sized city with lots to do.
I was pleasantly surprised how big the city actually was. They also have a state of the art CS building that I’ve heard great things about.

Definitely go for NYU, but it also depends on how much aid you will recieve

Why sosoyumi?
The CS program at UIUC is far better than NYU’s

UIUC’s computer science program is much better than NYU’s program but that’s not to say NYU’s program is bad. Also keep in mind that you get a BS from UIUC versus a BA from NYU (if you care at all). I would go with UIUC but if the location matters that much to you, go for NYU I guess.

Chelsea? What are your parents saying? Will they pay the high cost of NYU? If not, then it won’t be affordable. NYU gives lousy aid.

Have you run NYU’s net price calculator? IF so, what were the results?

Are you instate for UIUC?

edited to add…I see that you’re a NY resident. UIUC will also be pricey. IF your parents are fine with paying all costs, then great. IF they’re not, how will you cover the costs?

YOu applied to a lot of OOS publics.

UIUC’s program is far superior to NYU’s. You shouldn’t pick a school just because it is in a large city.

Maybe you should find programs that are good and in a large city (Northeastern, BU, USC, Cal etc)

Stony Brook is the obvious choice for a NY resident looking for a lower cost reputable CS major near NYC.

UIUC has a far superior Computer science program…their computer centre is “mind-blowing” from what I heard.

sorry for hijacking the post, but as another prospective uiuc student, does anyone know the max amount of Fin. aid+scholarschip they offer?
Also, when can one expect the offer letter?

^^

Use their Net Price Calculator on the UIUC website. IF you’re OOS, don’t expect much aid.

NYU is a lot more expensive than UIUC. Although, NYU is better overall you need to choose the cheaper one.

I’ve calculated that I gotta spend 7W/yr(including living expense, maybe a little bit less) if I am going to NYU. My parents are willing to pay for that but I still feel like it’s too expensive. I’ve visited NYU campus and I like it. I am OOS for Illinois, but it’s still cheaper compared with NYU. But I am worried if I can get good grade at UIUC cuz I’ve heard it’s pretty hard to even graduate…
