As I said in my title, the rankings for NYU’s Poly Sci (Ranked #15), is considerably higher than Georgetown’s (Ranked #40). Is this accurate? Would graduates of NYU’s program find it easier to get a job in politics? How is NYU’s better? Your advice and experience would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
Well, first of all, you shouldn’t be overly concerned with rankings (especially in any individual humanities or social science department).
But for what it’s worth, I’m willing to bet that that is a ranking of graduate programs, not undergraduate. Georgetown was actually ranked #1 for political science for undergraduate study (http://college.usatoday.com/2016/11/04/best-colleges-for-political-science/), but again, rankings aren’t very meaningful in this context.
In terms of getting a job, I would say that it’s probably easier to get a job “in politics” from Georgetown than NYU simply because of the location. It’s fairly easy to get internships in D.C., especially during the academic semesters when there’s less competition from non D.C.-based students. And in politics, connections are everything, so the ability to get these internships definitely gives you a leg up on the competition.
NYU is also much more expensive. If you want an explanation of why NYU might be better, you should probably post in the NYU forum.
Lol, no. Georgetown is the best school for gov/poli sci undergrad. Profs are great and being in DC is a godsend for a poli sci student.
INTERNSHIPS. END OF DISCUSSION.
Georgetown SFS is better than NYU Poly Sci. Not sure about georgetown government major in the college vs. nyu poly sci. Georgetown would def be better for internships.
