NYU Poly vs. Stony Brook

The last day for me to decide is May 1st. Convince me which school is better. I want to do engineering and go on to an elite grad school. Which school will best set me up for transfer into Cornell?

Idk, do you plan on doing research, clubs, internships, or do you want the spotlight to be on your gpa? And what if you assume you can’t have both the grades, and the work experience?

I’m not gonna sell you anything because while I go to Poly, I know nothing about Stonybrook. If you have any specific q’s lemme know. Have you visited either/both?

I have visited both. I just wanted to know if NYU Poly has the same academic rigor as Cornell or is it the same as Stony Brook? Also, is Poly’s tuition worth it?

Probably smack in the middle of Cornell and Stony Brook. Cornell is famous for a lot of work and grade deflation, etc… Stony Brook has apparently less work than Poly. My source: people I know who transferred into Poly from Stony Brook. And CConfidential.

I don’t think any college should charge for tuition more than like 10k/year. Why restrict “quality” education to the rich kids, you know? -_- (that’s my personal beef haha)… so the answer to your second q probs rests in financial aid, scholarships, and the final cost. But I do think Poly offers a quality education, ultimately. And again, I can’t speak for Stony Brook, so this is a very biased post (I’m a Poly undergrad)

What advantages will I have if I go to Poly? Will I be able to take courses at NYU? Do many people transfer out to more prestigious schools?

uh nyu vs. stony? i say go to nyu.

yes, you may take NYU classes at the College of Arts and Sciences. no, the vast majority of people stay. some transfer out, some drop out…kind of just like any other American college lol

Why is Poly not ranked in the top 15 engineering undergraduate school?

Top 15 might be hard to crack (not even Harvard or Brown are up there), but it’s certainly steadily moving up the rankings
