@camwow You can find this information through various college search engines, the nyu website and admissions blog, and other websites you can find via google.
@SternAspirations do you have the aid year? I don’t at all.
@Pugslife no I don’t - I think it’s just because they haven’t decided what to give us in aid, or because we have been rejected and they didn’t bother updating it to include the year
@camwow It is impossible to compare against each other using GPA, because so many schools do it differently. Additionally, many school’s curriculum are easier than others, and colleges will look at that fact. While GPA is one of the most important factors toward admission, it is different for everyone, so often colleges will recalculate according to their standards.
For example, the average GPA of people going into NYU from my school, which calculates GPA on a 4.33 UW scale, is 3.66. If this was changed to a 4.0 scale, the average GPA of my classmates getting into NYU would be 3.4, drastically below their average.
Already four ED applicants for Stern were admitted at my school, and three of their their GPA our of a 4.0 scale would be 2.9, 3.4, 3.5.
Ok, while the 2.9 GPA person may be a huge outlier (I have no idea how he got in, especially into Stern as his EC’s didn’t seem amazing either so have hope people!) it is evident that all their GPA’s are significantly below par with standards for NYU and Stern.
So you shouldn’t compare your GPA with another person, unless you guys are from the same school and had similar course-load.
@magc_2017 can someone else confirm so we have more than one source?
@SternAspirations I’m applying to Stern as well. Maybe Stern does aid differently? Euh.
@yuvanni last year they released decisions on Thursday March 31 so decisions being released as early as Thursday March 30 this year is very probable. Sometime in the next week you will receive an email from NYU giving you more information on when and how to get your admission decision.
Anyone applying to Courant Institute of Math? No discussion here or EA. Any information would be great. Thx
@Teach-me It should be included in CAS for undergrad
@Kosmkkk Thank you, Do they decide based on the school within CAS or general entry into CAS? I saw Courant computer science takes only 3% of applicants.
@Teach-me That I don’t know. Maybe it is an entry to CAS.
If my essay isn’t very strong will this affect my entire application? Also, what is the personal statement people have mentioned? I don’t remember completing that part of the application.
@EvW1313 The personal statement is the common app essay. The why NYU essay is important when it comes to decisions, but ofc not as important as test score, gpa, ecs. As long as you showed some passion in the essay, I think you’ll be fine.
@collegesplzz do you think the personal is more important than the nyu essay or vice versa?
Well I personally think that the why NYU essay is more important, since they are the ones who ask it in the first place. Not 100% sure though, since I’m only an applicant. Admissions might take into consideration both (50-50?)
@collegesplzz So the personal statement is the why NYU essay?
@EvW1313 no there are 2 essays. the first one (common application) is the personal and the seperate one that only nyu asks for is the why nyu essay
@EvW1313 No the personal statement is the common app question, the one where you had to choose one of the given prompts.
Alright I understand now, thanks!
This is a bit late but I haven’t gotten any FA or housing changes so I’m getting a bit nervous. Could anyone chance me?
Applying to CAS for Computer Science. Female, Asian, middle class income (60k), from the top county in the nation.
ACT: 32
GPA UW: 3.67
GPA W: 4.29
EC’s: President and founder of Culture Club, head of fundraising for Student Council, member of executive board for NHS, head editor for News Team, JV lacrosse, captain of Freshman volleyball, etc.
I don’t remember what my other positions were. Overall, my EC’s were fairly good. I’m only disappointed that Common App only allowed me to put 10 activities.
Recs: no idea
Class rank: 30/302 - top 10%
My sister also graduated from NYU in 2015, so I have some legacy.
I’m hoping that me being a woman will give me a bit of leverage in applying to Comp Sci. I was accepted into the UMD Computer Science program, which is the top 15 program in the nation whereas NYU is ranked around 30. I was rejected from Hopkins and UCLA. I’m not sure whether this is relevant or not, but thanks in advance!
