Also does anyone know how competitive the international relations program is at CAS? I sounds as if quite a few people have applied with that program in mind
@mmun99 There is honestly no point of chancing right now, since decisions come out in less than two weeks. You look like a strong candidate for CAS (ACT above 30+ is good and your uw GPA is fine). Just hope for the best; you have a great chance. Also, the housing change does not mean anything. It has been proven many times.
@Pugslife @SternAspirations – To add to your theory, my son applied to Stern and also does NOT have a year under financial aid. Not sure if it means anything but maybe you’re right that it has to do with Stern applicants.
I’ve heard some people say that in the past years, NYU has sent likely letters. Have they done it this year and if so, do they only send it to a select few or to all the people they are accepting?
@momof3co are you saying that stern applicants usually recieve less aid?
@camwow that is not true
@applefreak665 I don’t believe they’ve done anything like in that in the past few years. I don’t know about before that but the only thing NYU has done in the past that resembles likely letters from my understanding is sending out invitations to admitted student events before the actual decisions go out. If that’s what you’re referring to than no they have not done it this year, at least not yet, and it is doubtful they will do it this year. Admissions decisions are going out in about 10 days, probably less so just try to be patient. My guess is the only email you will receive from NYU before decisions go out is the one that will give you the details of when and how to access your decision.
@applefreak665 Like what @getaclucy said, NYU has done likely letters in the past (an example http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/661830-anyone-gotten-likely-letters-yet-p1.html ). However, they have not done so in recent years, and probably will not do it this year.
@camwow No, not at all. I actually don’t know much about NYU aid. My understanding was that @Pugslife and @SternAspirations thought Stern students had a different view in their financial aid portal solely because Stern handled it differently (as opposed to thinking it related to a detectable decision). That could be the case because I haven’t seen anyone outside of Stern mention they saw the same screen.
Is it bad to state that NYU is your first choice in the personal statement? I only mentioned it casually in a dependent phrase (if I remember correctly), but I’m looking back and thinking that I might get less financial aid if I even do get accepted.
@stelliferous No it’s not bad and it won’t hurt. Financial aid won’t have that info.
@stelliferous If by personal statement as in your personal essay in the Common Application that you send to all colleges, then yes, it is bad to say that NYU is your first choice.
@stelliferous It probably will not decrease your financial aid. However, why did you mention it in the personal statement? If you applied to other colleges, they will be able to see that you want to go to NYU instead of the other private universities you applied for.
@philosphists123 @collegesplzz Oh, sorry! Not the personal statement. It was the explanation why you wanted to go to NYU or why you belong there.
@stelliferous if that is the case, then I have no idea. However, it might have been good that you did that since I did not write about how this or that college was my first choice, and I’ve been waitlisted or rejected everywhere.
Does anyone know when NYU will give its decision?
@bat77man666 my best guess based on previous years and info they’ve given is Thursday March 30th but you’ll get an email from NYU sometime in the next week that will tell you exactly when decisions go out and how to access your decision.
@getaclucy okay, thanks
I applied to NYU through regular decision, and I read today that if you can see a “Housing” section in your Albert portal, that means you are accepted. I asked around a lot and many folks do not see a Housing section; their portals go from Admissions -> Financial Aid -> Events, whereas I have a Housing in between FA and Events.
When I click on Housing, it leads me to a different portal. If I click around a bit, I can make a deposit for housing for Fall 2017. I don’t want to keep my hopes too high, but is it true that if I can see this, I am accepted?
@invent0210 The housing trick does not indicate that you got in. The only indication of acceptance is when non-renewable undergraduate changes to freshmen, but that only happens a few hours before decisions go out. Even then, some people’s profiles still say non-renewable undergrad and they still get in. The point is, don’t read into this too much. Decisions come out in less than two weeks; there is honestly nothing any of us applicants can do at this point but wait.
