@camwow GPA is not everything. College admissions look at standardized test scores, EC’s, what you did in high school, race, ethnicity. Some might even say its all luck. No one knows how, but we do know it’s a factor of everything.
@philosphists123 i’m sure whoever it is KNOWS what “several days” means… there’s no need for you to make sure that another high school senior (or graduate) knows what that means. the point is that decisions are coming out earlier than the initial announced date (btw moving it from april 1 to march 30 is moving it to two days ahead)
to address your thing about it being normal to be excited about admissions process… yes it is, but you seem to be unhealthily into this process. the point is get off cc and stop freaking out.
edit: i suggest you follow the advice given to you by @getaclucy : Until then relax, get some lemonade, sit back, and watch a Disney Channel movie.
@philosphists123 well maybe you should get a calendar because March 30 is actually two days before April 1, three if you count March 30, March 31, and April 1. And though you certainly are not required to “calm down” it may be helpful for your current mental state which, based on what you post on here, is clearly way past excited and not in a good way.
As far as the NYU Shanghai email, it probably means you were not admitted to NYU Shanghai, but doesn’t mean anything in terms of the other campuses. So if you didn’t get that email, don’t expect to be spending next year in Shanghai.
@Faultystart I disagree with you, and I will explain. Several days does not mean 1 or 2 days. In fact, according to Merriam-Webster, the definition of several days is an indefinite number more than two and fewer than many. I know decisions are coming before April 1. I am not denying that fact. However, I believe one should be more specific in the details that one brings to an online forum. Rumors spread, and they spread fast.
@getaclucy maybe you should read this as well since you seem to not know what “several days” means. No worry I have posted the definition, and you may credit my sources at https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/several
^^amen
@getaclucy @Faultystart Oh and thanks for your suggestions, but I do not think I will be taking such advice from people who do not even know what the phrase “several days” means.
@philosphists123 oh. my. god. this is what i meant when i said you were being pedantic. we’re applying to nyu–we’re smart people. we KNOW what “several days” means. i know what several days means. but people don’t always use words to mean the dictionary definition (which, btw is a bad source to use to back up your argument–language changes and dictionaries don’t always reflect these changes). and it seems like you can’t grasp the what i’m trying to say.
you’re acting rude, condescending, and so passive-aggressive it’s ridiculous and immature to be arguing over such a tiny, insignificant thing. i only joined this little spat because you were being so nitpicky it was silly? rumors spread. so what? they always spread on cc. being pedantic about “several” verses “two” or “a few” isn’t going to make a difference–rumors will spread whether you like it or not.
i’ll repeat this one more time. calm down. distract yourself with something else and stop spending so much time on cc. this is ridiculous.
edit: how can rumors spread of the day it’ll be released if the decision date is confirmed?
@Faultystart You’re in no position to tell me I am acting rude or telling me I am spending so much time on cc. You’re a senior member, and yet you ridicule me when I am solely trying to resolve a conflict in someone’s wording. I am truly sorry if I have “triggered” you in any shape or form. If you don’t like me arguing over something I am telling you is wrong, then why don’t you ignore my statement completely and “distract yourself with something else” as you have said it yourself.
edit: I am sorry, but you must realize what you said was contradicting and hypocritical. If you cannot see that, then I am sorry, and I will end this argument here.
@philosphists123 tbh grow up, it looks like you know what “several days” means. Congrats lol
@collegeplzz thanks for your understanding.
@philosphists123 hmm that’s funny that you don’t want our advice now considering not even two weeks ago you messaged me (without my permission or approval I might add) desperate to be “chanced.” At this point you’re likely just hoping to be right about something so you’re focusing on our use of the word “several.” And as far as spending time on CC, there’s a difference between posting to answer others’ questions, and posting trying to get others to enable your college decision based anxiety. I’m done with this nonsense now, that by the way, all started because you asked a question you didn’t like the answer to. Have a nice life.
@philosphists123 what are u getting so worked up for? March 30th is next week Thursday, then you’ll get your response. No need to argue with people on CC and get your way. If you’re so concerned email the admissions office for more information. Let me remind u that this discussion is called NYU RD Class of 2021 not NYU admissions committee
@getaclucy Yes, I did ask for your advice then. You were a great asset, and I appreciated your help. I will never forget you:) However, I simply wanted to make sure that the person was using “several days” in the right context. It is ok fo you to berate me, and call me an idiot. However, now that I have gotten a chance to know how you respond to those who have different opinions, I regret to inform you that maybe you’re a little mentally sick, and that I should not be arguing with you. Thanks for trying though. And thanks, you also should have a nice life:)
@SammyDKMV Yes, thank you for telling me that when the thread is called NYU RD Class of 2021. You are very observant, and I appreciate your concern.
@philosphists123 well I’m glad I was able to point it out to someone who couldn’t read.
@philosphists123 i. wow. you realize my posts are spread over a period of nearly 3 years while your are over 5 days? you know what? i will gladly distract myself with something else because you clearly aren’t getting my point. most people don’t see “several days” and think “ok, three or more days”. there’s no need to be so fussy.
anyway, as a senior member, shouldn’t i also deserve some respect? saying that i “do not even know what the phrase “several days” means” is not respectful. at all. quoting to dictionary definition of “several” to another high school senior is also disrespectful–you’re insulting my intelligence.
and oh my gosh yikes calling someone “mentally sick” is just. a whole new level of gross. i’m done arguing with you since clearly you won’t respect what i have to say. anyways. i will take my own advice thank you very much and get off cc and not bother with you again. hope you enjoy stressing.
@Faultystart It is ok to be mentally sick. You are welcome to berate me as much as you want. Heck, I’ll even say that I am an insignificant child, and that you were right the whole time. Anything to help someone such as yourself with such a low self-esteem. :
edit: However, I do respect this thread and would appreciate it if you could berate me over Personal Message.
@philosphists123 Mental illness isn’t a joke at all, how ignorant of u
@SammyDKMV I never implied nor said it was a joke. I’m the one who can’t read, right?
I am sorry to everyone who I have made angry on this thread. It was never my intention. I hope we can get back to this being just NYU.
