NYU regular decision class of 2024!

@allstar365 Well according to multiple people from the past and nowadays, Rory Meyers is one of the least competitive schools at NYU(supposedly…in the past it was really hard to get into). I messaged a student from last year and they said there’s a variety of students with different stats who get entered. I know last year on this forum around three to four people got in and three people got waitlisted then one of them got in(according to people’s responses last year). You might want to ask this question on this year’s Rory Meyers thread because other fellow applicants can help you out.

I feel like the easiest schools are SPS, Steinhardt (for non-artistic majors like MCC or any of the education majors), and maybe Tandon? Not sure about Gallatin but I feel like thats very geared towards a certain person and the essays are important for that. Tisch is very hard but it is also very audition based, but even the auditions are competitive. Stern and CAS are definitely the hardest and most numbers based I think. Also, since CAS is the largest school at NYU, it probably makes up for a great chunk of the admitted students stats. LSP is then where a lot of people who got rejected from CAS, Steinhardt, or Gallatin go. But NYU is still competitive regardless, but thats my two cents on how it would probably break down by school.

“Lowest Acceptance to Highest Acceptance… Stern, Tisch, CAS, Tandon, Steinhardt, Rory Meyers, and Social Work.”

I got this from people on the NYU discord and from NYU Reddit and last year’s CC thread.
I think this is relatively consistent with what you’re saying above. It would be much preferable, however, if NYU could release the stats and acceptance rates for each of the colleges.

Does NYU give much in financial aid for middle class families or merit scholarships?

@sky177 unfortunately i don’t think so.
i’m middle/upper-middle class and according to the cost calculator on nyu’s website, i’ll be getting close to nothing. i believe the MLK money is decent
if you end up getting the scholarship though!

@LeviAru I think Stern and CAS are the only schools who publish acceptance rates (I believe it was 5 and 9% respectively) last year. And I agree, that would be very helpful for applicants as well as including ranges for SAT/ACT.

Unfortunately no. There is some merit (some with specific requirements) but most aid is need based and doesn’t meet full need (they are upfront about this on the website).

MLK is a full ride and then a little extra, but obviously super competitive. Last year I met the parent of a MLK scholar and his son ticked every box you can think of achievements and everything else wise. (Had not actually really considered going to NYU until he got this award.)

On admit rates. Stern is the most competitive by far and is ivy-type stats - I understand it was around 7% admit rate last year (stern does occasionally publish its admit rates, which I haven’t seen other schools do). Tisch is also understood to be low but obviously has a somewhat different admissions process to other schools within NYU. CAS is generally believed to be around the same as the overall admit rate. The others a bit easier. I don’t think any of it is “easy” to get in though.

Edit to update : stern was actually 8% admit rate last year, they’ve updated the numbers https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admissions/undergraduate/why-stern/numbers , scroll to “admissions”
Mean SAT was 1492.

I have academic year 2020-2021 on my housing portal for New York… but I applied to NYU Abu Dhabi as my first choice and put NY as my second choice (Shanghai third but it doesn’t show up anywhere). Under summer 2020 I have Abu Dhabi, New York, Washington, and Los Angeles. I most likely can’t afford NYUNY anyway… I already attended the third candidate weekend for Abu Dhabi. Most likely the housing stuff means nothing

Less than 24 hours, we’ll know. I just can’t wait for this process to be over so I can decide on a school finally.

Hi!
I applied to Stern and was wondering if the admission office only considers you for the college you applied to? Or, if not admitted to the college, they consider you for general admission or to pre-major in arts and sciences?

From what I know… I think you either get rejected, accepted, or waitlisted to the school you chose unless you have more than one listed.

They consider you for your first choice and then if you don’t get into that they will consider your backup options.

If you listed an alternative option you would be considered for that. If not, then if not admitted at stern it would just be a denial.

How are the acceptance rates for Social Work? Does anyone think those will be higher this year? Thanks.

NYU said they’re accepting their most selective group this year. So I think acceptance rates for all colleges in NYU are going be a lot lower than what we should expect, including Social Work.

If NYU’s acceptance rate dropped to 16% last year, I can’t wait for this year’s percentages…

@LeviAru - wow, thanks. Hoping for the best.

did no one else apply to tisch? :’)

@ketchupsupreme I applied to Tisch School of Professional Studies from CA

I applied to Tisch. Good luck, fellow artsy student.

If you have academic year 2020-2021 on housing portal, I believe you will get in. If you don’t have it, you still have chance according to someone’s experience last year.
