I’ve been accepted into RH for mechanical engineering (my first choice major) and NYUSH for electrical engineering, since they don’t have a mechanical department. It seems like an easy decision but the issue is that NYUSH offered me a $43,000/year scholarship…
Im finding it difficut to refuse, but will that choice benefit me in the long run?
Okay, I’m obviously too late to reply, but I’m gonna answer it anyway.
There are numerous factors that you’ll have to consider before selecting a university, including student body, location, etc. Among them, financial aid is also something that should not be dismissed easily. NYU SH gave you a generous scholarship, which means that you might be graduating almost debt free (especially if your family is willing to pay the remaining amount).
Now, your concern is whether an education in NYU SH would benefit you in the long run or not. Well, the school itself is built together with teachers from the main campus of NYU, so definitely you will be surrounded with really good professors who will guide you well. The campus is situated in Shanghai, where I am sure there will be a lot of opportunities that may complement you (it’s also cosmopolitan so English is predominantly spoken). Moreover, you get to study abroad for like a year so you can always visit the NYU Tandon (engineering school) in NYC. Plus, you’re graduating with an NYU degree, which carries a significant value (and the value is appreciating!)
Also, I feel like a lot of students are dismissing the fact of having an enjoyable experience. Yes, nowadays competition is fiercer and fiercer, and yes, stability is important, thus getting a job is important as well. But going to university isn’t all about prepping yourself for a job. It’s also about enjoying life and learning more about the world, and with NYU SH’s global network, I’m sure that you will gain indelible memories.
But then again, I’m pretty sure Rose-Human is a good school, so whatever you’ve chosen, I’m pretty sure you’ll have a good future!
