I just applied to NYU Steinhardt regular descision. Will you please give me my chances? I think I'm in the ballpark for NYU's SAT range, but I have no idea how I am with Steinhardt.

White Male

Major: Education

Rank: 21/278 at a competitive Catholic school on Staten Island, NY

SAT II: US History: 650 / Math I: 650 (disappointed w/this one)

GPA: 96.1 Weighted, about a 92 unweighted

Courseload: Very demanding. Not quite the most demanding b/c I didn't take AP English.

EC's: Not bad for an education major. I was a volunteer little league baseball coach. Oue team won the league championship in 2005. I also was a naturalist/counselor at a camp in which myself and 3 other counselors lead kids around parks and woodlands and educate them about nature.

Wow. This is amazing. Although I just recently joined this forum, I’ve been browsing it for two years and I hardly ever see educations majors, besides myself.

I just got accepted to Steinhardt ED, for a Math Teacher Education. I say you have a very good, if not great shot. My SATs were almost exactly the same as yours and I did worse on the SAT 2s, and very similar GPA’s. I think you’re my clone or something.

NYU is always looking for education majors to fill up there program because unfortunately there aren’t too many people who want to pursue a career in teaching (its all about money theses days!). I talked to may reps and the MOST important factor for NYU Education admissions is a passion for teaching. You have many EC’s that reflect on your decision. My main EC was that I taught karate for a year. As long as you made it a point that this (teaching) is what you want to do with you life you have a great shot.

Thanks a lot MJStyles! I was thinking over whether to apply to Stern as an Accounting major or Steinhardt as an Education major. I chose the latter because I know my chances at Stern are not great and I enjoy teaching more than crunching numbers. It was a tough descision though because I am taking an Accounting class through Pace University and I am good at it (highest midterm grade!). It was also tough because my parents already have this idea in their heads that I am destined to be a CPA.

I can think of several questions that I would like to ask you about Steinhardt and NYU in general. I'll PM you as soon as I can.
