I'm pretty sure that I wanna study business (most likely finance). I really wanted to go to Ross but I don't think I got into the preferred admit thing. So now I think it's kinda risky if I got to UMich because I'm not sure if I can even get into Ross if I apply again after my freshmen year and I really wanna go to a business school. So what do you guys think? Should I go to NYU Stern even though I like UMich better as a school? Or should I give up going to a business school and go to UMich for a nice campus + a great college life/experience? I really need lots of advice and opinions ASAP since I'm planning on making my decision and deposit by this week! Thanks!

50 or so percent of the students that have 3.5 GPA's and higher get into ross.

But since you want to go into finance, Stern is a better choice. Plus NYC is unbeatable when it comes to opportunities.

You have to factor in costs too, but Tisch/Stern is worth it from what I've heard. Other then that NYU is very expensive, often not worth it.

But great school + NYC.....I'd go with stern.

Only you can answer that question. Whatmeans more to you? Your overall undergraduate experience, or majoring in Business? And if majoring in Business is more important to you than your overall undergraduate experience, are you willing to take a chance or do you prefer to play it safe?

I'm really, really torn. I wish I could lean towards one or the other but I'm seriously like right in the middle...sigh...

Why don't you think you got into Ross preferred admit? The funny thing, it's hard to say which decision is riskier. On the one hand, going to NYU is kind of risky because you may decide you don't want to do business, and then you're at a school with a much weaker general reputation than Michigan. However, Michigan is risky in that if you aren't in ross preferred admit, you still might not make it in after freshman year if your grades aren't good enough, but you'll have a better general education to fall back on. My honest opinion: If you think you're a good student that can pull A's at Michigan freshman year, go there and you'll have no problem getting into Ross. But if you don't think you have what it takes to do that and you're certain you want to go into business, then go to NYU.

i agree with chibears. if you even considered applying to ross as a preadmit, you must be a pretty legitly smart guy. you should be able to pull the grades to get into ross. when i was at campus day, the dean lady said that you need to have a couple required courses, like microecon, freshman english comp, and calc I (which are all in my mind pretty easy classes). nyu's arts and sciences is honestly pretty lacking and even if stern may be academically better for finance, consider that you'll be going to a school with practically no campus. you really have to LOVE nyc to be there. on the flip side, michigan's campus is pretty appealing to a broad range of people. even if you don't get into ross, you'll still have great options. i feel you on this one; i thought about ross in the same way.

Well, I haven't even heard from Ross yet so I doubt I got in preadmit or they should've contacted me already right? I wish I could be really confident about pulling the A's at Michigan freshman year but I have no idea how tough the courses at Michigan are compared to my abilities. Do any of you know how hard it is to get A's at UMich? And what do you guys think about Ross vs. Stern in general? Do you think NYC would really provide a lot more opportunities for business majors?

Ug, this has been beaten to death in hundreds of threads on this forum. Going to NYU does not give students an advantage. Major recruiters go to all the top Business schools and recruit heavily at all of them. 40% of Ross students end up on Wall street for their internships and full time.

Thanks for all the advice! I picked UMich btw...payed my deposit today! and really really excited about it.
