So I just got into Ross as a Preferred Admit, and am ecstatic because it's always been one of my top choices. But I also got into Stern as a Stern Scholar, which is also an incredible honor. Now I don't know what to do.

I always loved everything about UMich, everything from the social life, campus, and just.. the traditional "college-like" atmosphere.. But NYU was pretty sweet when I visited last weekend, and I feel like the Scholars program can make up for alot of things that I would lose from going to school in the city..

I want to study marketing, so if either school has a stronger program, that would be helpful too.. Overall undergrad business ranking-wise, Ross is tied for 3rd with Berkeley, followed by Stern at 5th.. I think it's too close to tell, but does anyone know which school is regared more highly in the business world?

UMich gave me about $23,000 and NYU gave me $20,000 in scholarships and grants.. Anyone out there to sway my decision?? I'm totally stuck. : (

i wish i could help, but both of your choices are just wayyy too good lol. In any case, i don't think you can make a wrong decision as long as you like both places.

if you're 100% sure you want to major in business, then go to NYU. But, if you'd like to keep your options open and aren't completely set on business then go to U of M. (UM LSA blows NYU CAS out of the water)

Taking a different approach from what the other posters have said. First off, since Mich and NYU are very VERY different schools, you need to think about what you are comfortable in first. I too was interested in NYU/Stern on an academic standpoint and hub for oppurtunities, but I realized, thats pretty much all I would get from Stern.

On the flip side, you can get all that and more from Michigan (in my opinion). If you want to play the rankings game, Michigan tops Stern in everything but Finance, so if you want to become a slave of banking and private equities, go to NYU, thats what it will help you with. But if you're interested in various aspects of business, especially management and marketing, than has the upper-hand in terms of rankings.

If your into the whole school spirit thing, then this debate shouldnt be going on. Yah, people wear their NYU sweatshirts alot...maybe talk about the latest sporting event @ one of 5 million starbucks in the City. But...waking up at 7-8am on a saturday morning, grilling lunch in the Big House parking lot, cheering on the Wolverines against OSU.....I am this excited about it just from watching it on TV, havent even done it yet.

So as I said, it comes down to what you want to get out of it. If you do decide to choose Michigan, I hope we get a chance to speak over the summer before heading out to Ann Arbor. Good luck with the decision

1) Michigan's Marketing program is arguably #1 in the nation...NYU's is not quite as good. I realize that according to the USWR undergraduate ratings, Ross is #2 for Marketing compared to Stern's #6, but there is a significant difference between the two because many top Marketing programs (Kellogg, Harvard, Fuqua and Columbia) are exclusively graduate.

2) After scholarships, Michigan will cost you roughly $15,000 a year, whereas NYU will cost you $25,000 a year. That's $40,000 over 4 years.

3) Finally, you said you like Michigan's traditional college culture. Sounds like Michigan is for you.

Carpe Diem, I disagree with you. No Business program has an advantage over Michigan when it comes to internships and professional placement save maybe Wharton.

Thanks everybody for all your kind words of advice. I spoke to my parents about this as well and looks like I'll be in Ann Arbor next year. Hope to see you all there~ : )

moral to this story that a small, arguable difference in rankings is an entirely secondary factor compared to things like size, location, overall attitude, etc

"pick Ross and one day you'll be a boss"? Or how about "Pick Ross and like Jay-Z you will floss"..."Pick Ross and you'll be hot as tobasco sauce"...now you guys can see why I rap, haha.

Chicago has a great like Common and then they have Twista and Kanye West. BTW, dearkon still never use that phrase again....it's not too late to switch majors if you were thinking of marketing.
