Thanks for the advice, jaquen; I appreciate it.

You're welcome.

tracemhunter, i wish i could answer your olsen twins question, but i haven't actually seen them around...

as for transfers, the general population doesn't really discriminated against them, if you find someone cool to talk to in your class, you're not going to be turned away once they realize you're a commuter lol

although it's only my first semester, i'm noticing that most of my professors are pretty helpful and not so arrogant, but it all depends on who you have, i've heard some horror stories

and about the sternies, i have a few of them in some of my classes, and they aren't as bad as people portray them to be... :D

excellent!
thanks treeexoxo.

What have NYU students heard about the Jazz Performance program at Steinhardt?

For current NYU hopefuls are you encouraging us or shunning us away from a place you have fond memories but not the greatest educational experiences?? Overall, would you be happy with your kid going there?

Vhs21688, I believe MHC48 mentioned that his/her kid does attend NYU.

I applied to NYU ED to CaS but got accepted into GSP instead. While I have end of December to Accept I am kind of torm for a few reasons. First I applied to SUNY Binghamton EA but got defered to regular rolling admission in which they are waiting for my Mid year grades. So Since I got shot down from my first choice of state school I feel worthless but since NYU, which im my mind is better , I have the urge to go there. Secondly Price is slightly a concern and that's why I am going to commute.

I live in Westchester so I think it will take an hour to get there daily on metro north/subway. But now I worry about now making friends because I would only have contacr during class hours ><. I am set on doing the pre-med course but since im in GSP I will haev a mix of those cultural courses and science and I might need to take summer as well to get enough credits. Since I'm commuting I don;t know how

I will exactly do work study or volunteer at hospital ( as most med schools look for involvement). I was thinking wake up early morning, get to class, spend whole day in library etc and just go back home for sleep. I also applied to Suny Albany, Stony Brook, and Geneseo. Honestly speaking, would I get parallel education there in terms of the core premed classes? If I go there I could take more classes I want and not worry about those MAP classes. Also, My parents can manage to pay for the 4 years but since another 4 for med school is coming after this, I'm thinking go to decent state school and think big on medical. Any Ideas? I'm really torn and only have 2 weeks to figure this dilema out.

Question for any Tisch drama students- is it best to pick the dorm closest to your studio? Or does it matter that much?

Morningstar--

I'd say it doesn't really matter at all. If you have your studio in Union Square and you live in one of the Union Square dorms (i.e U-Hall, 3AN) you will have to walk a bit further to get to your WSP area classes, or if you live in the WSP dorms (Goddard, Hayden, Weinstein), it may take you a bit longer to get to studio. Then there are Brittany and Rubin which are kind of in the middle.

Nothing ever seems to feel like a very long walk, no matter what you choose!

I'm really not liking the guy:girl ratio :(

From what I've heard, Cornell is notorious for having displeasurable looking women. How about NYU? Are the girls all hot? What about the guys?

just a few answers to some questions i saw:

olsen twins are rarely seen, i think, especially since one dropped out. from what i hear, they stayed to themselves and didn't really make too much of an effort. having your bodyguards around you and your SUVs drop you off right in front of Gallatin will do that. there are some facebook groups for if you have seen them, but the majority of students don't really care. there are several famous ppl there; it is new york city, nobody notices.

stern students can be pretty crazy. i've heard stories of students who, after a professor gives an assignment to go get picked up somewhere else, the student gets there first and throws them all out so he has an advantage. the stern curve really makes everyone competitive. that said, i've got some best friends in stern, and they are just the nicest, most relaxed people you'll ever meet. you'll meet some typical sternies, and if they aren't your type of person, just avoid them. it's easy to do.

guy/girl ratio is definitely favored to guys. there's a joke that half of the guys at nyu are gay, and then half of what's left is unacceptable to date. but a lot of people are good-looking. i would say the average amount. i'm a girl, and i think personally there is a large amount of very pretty girls at NYU, and a good amount of cute guys. unfortunately, most of the hot ones tend to be gay!

"...i think personally there is a large amount of very pretty girls at NYU.."

too good.

So I've heard a lot of stuff about dorms like Hayden and UHall, but I haven't seen anyone comment on Brittany before. Anyone who has lived there or knows about it, comment please!

You can see pictures of Brittany dorms

they look pretty damn good, IMO, my second pick for dorms

That really sucks. :( I hate this guy girl ratio thing. :(:(:(

i lived at brittany my freshman year (floor 14!). it was a good time. there is no 13th floor because it's an old hotel, so that was interesting. the penthouse used to be a speakeasy back in prohibition days, and it is supposedly haunted. now it's a study lounge, but it still has fun history. there's a list of famous people who once stayed at the brittany hotel. great location, between university and broadway, and the guards are really nice. rooms are huge! i lived in a triple and it was the biggest room i've ever been in, everyone who saw it was amazed. much better freshman dorm than UHall or 3rd North, at least in my opinion :)

"much better freshman dorm than UHall or 3rd North, at least in my opinion"

Lol, I don't think many will share your opinion, as UHall seems to be among the most popular frosh dorm these days. To each his own though, I'm still partial to my freshman hall--Hayden.
