I'm applying to the NYU summer high school for acting(the new program) and I am SO NERVOUS! I REALLY want to get in. I'm a junior in high school right now. I have a 3.8 GPA and I've done theater for 4 years now. I haven't heard of anyone who has gotten rejected in past years so maybe I have a chance? I'm sorry its just I'm from this small town in Florida and its my dream to attend the summer program at Tisch for acting. Any advice?

You certainly have a chance.

My advice is to first put together a really great application with a lot of effort. My second piece of advice is to not pin hopes on one single dream program and to explore several summer acting programs and apply to several in a range of selectivity (some take anyone as long as space is available and some are more selective, such as the Tisch one). There are many fine summer acting programs out there besides Tisch and so apply to several, even if you really like Tisch.

You’re right! I have actually been looking at the CMU, Ithaca, FSU, and UArts programs. I am really looking into USC’s summer program right now. Thanks for the advice!

Does anybody know if a counselor rec. is required for the program?

I’ll put a good word in for another one of those summer acting programs. D2’s close friend went to the one at BU and ended up being admitted to the BU acting program the following year. This last year, she served as a teaching assistant in the summer acting program along with several other BU juniors from the BFA program. From what she told me about the summer program–I thought it sounded like a great opportunity for a rising college senior who wanted to go into a BFA program. From what I understand, the BU summer program is selective.

I’ll put in a good word for Umich’s Mpulse program. Just a head’s up though, I was rejected from the Tisch drama summer program. AS far as I can tell though there’s no correlation between actual acceptance to Tisch Drama for undergrad (where I am now) and getting in for the summer program- several people in my studio group did go, but I also know several people who were rejected ED who went last summer. Do you know what you want in a summer program? That might help you pick some more programs.

I got in! YAY!
