Hey everyone!
I am an incoming Summer Analyst for this summer, and I am very interested in housing at NYU. I was wondering if y’all could give me some pointers towards which dorm/house was the best one.
Here are the qualities that I am looking for in a dorm:
- Proximity to work (my work will be next to the Paulus Hook Ferry, in Jersey City)
- How fun the dorm is (aka does the dorm have a reputation for being social?)
- How nice the dorm is
- How close is the dorm to the lit part of NYC (I don't know much about NYC, but by "lit" I mean bars/restaurants/clubs)
- Pricing (I am a broke college student)
Please let me know what you think!! The more opinions, the better.
Thanks
Michael
If you’re going to Jersey City every day for work, none of NYU’s dorms are good for you. The hall that all NYU students want to live in is Gramercy Green (23rd & 3rd Ave) because it’s the nicest. Dorm social life during the summer is different than dorm social life during the academic year, so don’t count on your hall mates to be “lit”. Speaking about “lit”, it’s New York City. Bars, restaurants, and clubs are literally everywhere. You can find rates at: http://www.nyu.edu/summer/housing/rates.html
The only criteria that applies to you is pricing. You’re going to have a commute regardless of which res hall you choose and social life is not an important factor nor is proximity to “lit” New York, so focus on pricing. I’d stay away from Rubin, the lowest priced hall, because it doesn’t have AC and you can’t bring your own units.
