Is Summer Housing at NYU worth it? What's it like?

I got a single at Rubin, but I could potentially also stay at a double at Hayden.

Which would you choose? I just don't want to be bored to death when I come back from work.

i’m an NYU student but i did summer housing.

basically, you’re just paying for the room. there’s no programs run by NYU during the summer, really. you’ll have to work at making friends, either with your roommate, on your floor or at work/internship/classes.

those dorms are across the park from each other. rubin is on 5th avenue and closer to weinstein hall, which is one of the dining options (at least, it was last summer.) rubin is also un-air conditioned, which can be killer. (it got to be over 100 last summer here, and HUMID.) hayden is air conditioned and closer to Kimmel, and closer to the subway hub at w 4th street. (it’s also closer to the Village if you’re into the bar scene, if you’re old enough for that.)

it’s really just a room. i hung out with my boyfriend all summer. my roommate was a sweet girl from LA, and we hung out, but i didn’t know anyone else other than her that summer. i went out with my boyfriend and his friends most of the time.

ah i see. thanks for the info.
usually 2-3 rooms are also connected to a shared bathroom right? did you make friends with those you shared a bathroom with?
also, is the meal plan a good deal? if not, then i guess it’s better to find a cheaper apartment and eat out?

No, it’s usually just one room with a bathroom and a closet or two(with some exceptions), and unless you get an apartment style you are stuck with a meal plan.

i see. anyone else have insight?
i need to decide soon (preferably by tomorrow) and I guess i’m leaning towards choosing somewhere else.

Hi! im about to apply for summer 2015 and have the same questions.
@"Transglobal Spectacle" and @jh2633 how did housing go?
My choices so far are:
a) Private studio at Second Street.
b) Single bedroom Alumni Hall
c) Single bedroom Third Avenue North
d) Single dorm at Rubin Hall (though it has no A/C)
What do you think? where did you live? how was it?
Thank you!!
