As we all know, there are three supplement essays for NYU.

I notice that the Why NYU and the Major Essay kind of overlap.

Ex.

Why NYU?

Regardless of whether or not you have an intended major or concentration, please elaborate on an academic area of interest and how you wish to explore it at NYU's campuses in New York or Abu Dhabi or at one of our global academic centers around the world. Please share any activities or experiences you have had that have cultivated your intellectual interests leading you to choose to study at the NYU campus of your choice.

To clarify, in the second essay (the major essay), we only talk about our majors right? But the prompt asks "how you wish to explore it at NYU's campuses...." Isn't that the same thing as the first prompt?

How do you guys approach it?

I believe your assumptions are correct.

My first essay, “Why NYU?” is more of a generalized brief statement regarding why I want to go to NYU. By chance, I didn’t mention my proposed major, but you most definitely may.

Moreover, the second essay is clearly geared towards the major, indicating that I would elaborate on what the college has to offer for undergrad, and post graduation in relation to that major
(i.e. how it will help you? opportunities in NYC? etc.)

My outlook on the second essay was more elaborative of my possible breadths in the City rather than merely at the University, as the NYC is simply an extension of the school.

^
Thanks! That was awesome

I think in my first essay, I will be talking about why New York City and NYU, and second one I am going to talk about Stern. =)

^ That’s basically what I did, except my second one had to do more with Steinhardt! :P
