NYU Tandon

so, i got into Tandon school of engineering, and i have some questions!

  1. How isolated is Tandon from the main campus? Do people in tandon often get to see people from like, CAS or, LSP?

  2. I am aware that NYU offers a general study for the first 2 years. Does this mean even though im a student in tandon, I will commute to the main campuses in manhattan everyday?

  3. Can I live in dorms close to the main campuses? and what would the pros/cons of that be?

I’m so excited to go to NYU, but im just a bit disappointed because Tandon seems a bit different from other schools.

Congrats on your acceptance to Tandon!

As a first-year Tandon student who opts to live on campus, you will be forced to pick from dorm buildings located on the Brooklyn campus.
For classes, all required core courses are offered on the Brooklyn campus so there is not too big of a need to travel to the main Manhattan campus.
As for social life, NYU is really what you make it out to be. A lot of people from the Brooklyn campus travel to the main campus (there are free shuttles provided by NYU, Subway, Uber, Lyft, etc.) and a lot of people from the WSP campus travel to Brooklyn to meet with friends. And due to the sheer size of the engineering school, you shouldn’t have too big of a problem finding people with your own interests within Tandon. That being said, however, since travel isn’t too big of an issue, you will have many opportunities to socialize with people from the WSP campus.

I’m in the same situation. I’m an international student from New Zealand, and obviously our biggest city doesn’t even come close to the size of NYC. I’ll also be a freshman at Tandon next year and was wondering about the location of housing.

Do any freshmen Tandon students live at the non-Brooklyn campuses, or are they literally “forced” to pick from the Brooklyn ones as fedorable said?

@SpicyRamen apparently, we MUST live on the Brooklyn campus… its kind of a bummer as it seems like theres a lot going on around the main campus. I decided not to stress too much about it since its really close to the main campus and its not too hard to change schools after a year.

@fedorable thank you for your answer!! made me less worried about everything
