Hey guys!
Now that I am accepted to NYU TISCH, I am very excited and looking forward to the next 4 years in NYU!
Since I was young, I’ve been very interested in both Photography and Film. Since my sophomore year in high school, I’ve been passionately pursuing my interest in photography and I am very glad that I had an opportunity to do so. Now that I am accepted to TISCH, just as I had an opportunity to pursue my interest in photography, I want to also get to learn some Film as well. I am planning to take some Film classes during my Freshman year at TISCH along with my Photography classes but I have no clue which classes I should take since I have no prior experience in Film whatsoever.
Could anyone give me recommendations on which Film classes I should take at TISCH as a beginner?
You may not be able to take any film classes as a Tisch freshman, generally for arts programs, the curriculum is extremely rigid for at least the first two years, and any non-core photo classes will be filled up with core NYU requirements. Additionally, the film classes you can take will probably be limited to open arts Tisch classes that are open to any NYU students. It’s unlikely that you would be able to take the same classes that film majors take.
During your freshman year, you are required to take:
Photography & Imaging Digital - 4pts
Photography & Imaging Analog - 4pts
Visual Thinking (course optional for transfer students) - 4pts
Culture, History, Imaging & Photography Studies (CHIPS) - 4pts
Writing the Essay: Art and the World - 4pts
Writing the Essay: The World Through Art - 4pts
That leaves you room for one class, which will probably be filled up by a gen ed liberal arts class towards your gen ed requirements.
Thanks @jazzcatastrophe for the help. However, according to the link http://filmtv.tisch.nyu.edu/object/UFTV_NonMajor_film_courses_only.html, I think I might be able to take a film class that film majors take Please let me know If you have any more information!
