NYU Tisch Letters of Recommendation

Hi!

I'm applying for NYU's Tisch Film and Television and have several letters of recommendation that I want to send too.
However, only the Tisch website, these letters are not included in the Film and Television portfolio requirements.
Does this mean I send them separately? If so what address (the NYU admissions or Tisch)? Or do I send them as an attachment to the Common Application?
Or, as I'm pretty sure, do the writers of these letters send them personally? But address do THEY send them to?

Would greatly appreciate any help!

hey Leonidas11 i had 3 letters of rec and i send them with my transcripts to the office of undergrad admissions. I didnt send them directly to tisch.

If i understand correctly, i think Tisch wants to see for themselves what you can do in film and storytelling. The letters of recommendation can help you with the normal application process (you need at least two I believe), and you send those to the office of undergrad admissions, like itsme33 said. If you arent aware, the application to Tisch is a two-step process; your application gets reviewed by the office of undergrad admissions and your portfolio gets reveiwed by tisch, and they then compare opinions and select applicants to admit.

For your regular application, it’s a MAXIMUM of three letters of rec (one from a teacher, which is required, one from a counselor, which is required, and an option of a third from anyone). When I went to visit NYU, the admissions counselor said that they had problems of people sending insane amounts of rec letters, which the counselors had to read, so in order to rectify that, they developed a policy saying that they would only read the two required letters, and a third if you sent one, but that’s it. So anymore than three letters simply won’t be read. Just a head’s up.

I called tisch and they told me to include a recommendation I had from a Tisch professor with my portfolio because it was Film related. I also submitted 2 teacher recs and a guidance counselor rec, it was a student who told me to send it in my portfolio…I hope he was right hahah

ok, so I SHOULD send FILM RELATED recommendations to Tisch with my portfolio.
But, I should send ACADEMICALLY related recommendations to the admissions office.

However, I don’t think they would trust the letters if I myself sent them. Don’t they have to be sent by the writer?

@Leonidas11- you should definitely call Tisch but that’s what the student I talked to said. I figured since it was from a professor at the school, they would trust I didn’t forge it. That would be an awful idea hahah

Ok, so here’s the deal.
Since I’m a home schooled student, I have to send two letters of recommendation - one from the primary teacher and another from a mentor.

Now, the great question is…to which address do THEY send these letters?

I’ve been looking all over the NYU website, and they don’t have an appropriate address ANYWHERE. This makes me think, although I’m applying online, they send the letters to the paper application address…

You have no idea how much I would appreciate any help!

Anything that I sent that didn’t have an online form, I sent via snail mail to the undergraduate admissions office

Anything that I sent that didn’t have an online form, I sent via snail mail to the undergraduate admissions office (New York University
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
665 Broadway, 11th Floor
New York, NY 10012-2339). I think that would be your best bet if you can’t figure out to send it online.

Yep,

My son sent all regular recommendation letters to the address of the Undergrad Admissions Office as provided by hayley^. He also faxed over new information about pertinent awards and honors that came way after the official Common Application deadline was over (but before admissions notifications were sent out).

Thank you so much hayleyelisa and evolving!!
