NYU vs. HUNTER-CUNY

I got into both hunter and nyu for childhood special education. Do not know which one to choose! Help!

NYU! 10char

R u familiar with either program?

Which is the cheapest?

Teaching is not a highly-paid profession, as you probably know, and “prestige” counts for essentially zero. It would be stupid to borrow $50,000 for NYU when a $20,000 (guessing) CUNY degree gets you the same credential and the same opportunities.

Don’t listen to the people who just automatically say “OMG NAME SCHOOL!” - they’re not going to be paying your student loan bills for you.

Very true however, my program in nyu is shorter than hunter. So the price difference is about 15,000. Which is a lot of money, but managable debt. My concern is that when I movE out of state ( to Florida) would a job recognize hunter as a good school or is nyu better because it is more nationally known.

Again, nobody cares about “prestige” in teaching. The vast majority of teachers in this country come from random “third-tier” directional state universities, aka the original teacher’s colleges. There’s literally millions of teachers out there with degrees from Black Hills State, Cal State-Stanislaus, Stephen Austin State, U of Southern Indiana, etc.

By the time you finish paying off $15,000 in debt, it’s about $20,000. That’s a nice late-model used car, or a down payment on a house. Is NYU worth that much money to you? Only you can make that decision.

Doesn’t matter, because special education is in such demand they will hire you if you came from a school they never heard of. Incidentally, though, Hunter is a great school with a great reputation.

IMO NYU is not worth the extra $15K. Like others have said, prestige doesn’t matter in teaching.
