OBC's (extension of indian thread)

lol,
while yes this is my first time in india, wat i was saying wasn't personal anecdotal evidence that one would get from having personal experience in the country - as much as it was doing research online through the census and looking at different demographics/income levels/literacy rates which are more statistical and not as subjective .... however, i am not in any way backing the quota system, as i myself feel that i do not have enough information in making an educated decision, i am just trying to be as logical as possibe ...
just watching the news doesn't seem to be enough as they don't really give firm statisitical information - rather, they only seem to hype the anti-reservation protests while straying away from resons, facts, figures, historical analsis, etc...
it's also great that you guys are all really helpful in helping deconsrtuct the situation, and one of the reasons i came to this board and cc itself in te first place was to get opinions from people who actually have resided in india for an extended period of time so that i could get a broader image of the situation that facts and figures wouldn't be able to give me ...

If you had friends who were being screwed over because of reservation, you'd be a bit ****ed off as well. Trust me, the friends I'm speaking about are brilliant and deserve their hard earned seat.

<quote=zavaind>.... but if cast has little to nothing to do with a persons financial/educational backround then why do u think that people such as dhalits and other lower casts/religion are as under represented as they currently are...?</quote=zavaind>

And yet again, let me repeat myself, im talkin about life in the cities, not some far flung places... What do u mean by under represented? I think if 50% of the seats in educational institutions are reserved for the OBCs, that makes way for some serious under representation of the rest of the society which doesn't come under that 'SC/ST/OBS' umbrella..
