How easy is it to get into and out of Oberlin during the winter months? Are there ever extended periods of time when people are snowed in?

Depends on your definition of “snowed in.” Oberlin, Ohio isn’t Buffalo, New York or International Falls, Minnesota. I’ve never seen snowed in happen in this part (Ohio/Pennsylvania) of the country. Of course, I’m going by Minnesota standards, where I lived for 16 years.

Where are you from?

I’m from southwest Ohio so I’ve definitely seen snow before. The reason I’m asking this is because I have friends that go to Oberlin and I will most likely be attending a college that is about two hours south of Oberlin so I was wondering whether I would be able to drive up to visit them during the winter months.

Nope. We got a blizzard this year, so for one day, the roads were clogged. Otherwise, it’s pretty normal northeastern-y weather. We miss most of the lake effect.

I am considering Oberlin for next year. Can you tell me about the weather especially the snow? I am from Texas where we see snow every 10 years.

Are you pro or con when it comes to snow? If you’re afraid of it, there is no reason to be. If you hate it, then don’t come. If you’re curious, I say come on out to Ohio. You’ll love it.

Seriously, this isn’t Buffalo, New York or International Falls, Minnesota. There isn’t that much snow. There is enough to have fun with for a few days and write home about --don’t forget to send pictures – but no big deal. It’ll be gone before you know it. :)
