Which is better?

Neither one is “better.” What do YOU want from a school? Go to the Grinnell and Oberlin forums and ask specific questions about these schools, or read through the threads also posted. My S goes to Grinnell, and there is a ton of stuff on that forum right now.

I will address what might be one obvious distinction between the two (besides the size), and that is the presence of the conservatory at Oberlin. I do want to assure you (and anyone else reading this) that Grinnell has a good music scene: alot of private lessons available through the music department, performing opportunities, and artists brought on campus regularly. Esperanza Spalding gave a concert at Grinnell before the rest of the world knew who she was in winning Grammy for Best New Artist. The students schedule a lot of indie groups to come in and perform in the intimate venues on the campus (I"m a parent, so all these names are Greek to me, but I’m sure kids would know them…)
