I’m strongly favoring Oberlin for d22. quirky liberal socially awkward at times dancer. Wonder what your thoughts are.
What school appeals most to your D? What major? Are there considerations beyond academic/social fit e.g., financial, travel, etc?
Are you from North Carolina? Oberlin is a known quantity, and you are probably justified in your preference for it. But Asheville has its charms too and would need to be seen in-person in order to eliminate it from the competition entirely (especially, if you are paying the in-state sticker price.)
What’s the $$ difference and does it matter ? Oberlin is definitely known for its conservatory and for its humanities.
One school is near a cool small city, in the mountains. One isn’t.
If Oberlin were full pop I don’t think it’s worth it. But it is a well known name. But that doesn’t always matter even though everyone on the cc thinks it does

Thanks everyone for validation. D is with her dad on a trip to see both schools. We are from NYC. Oberlin gave a ton of grant money. Asheville is just a few thousand less. Am going to talk to FA and find out if they can give a little bit more but I think I’m making much more money in 2022 so not sure if I should mention.
If you negotiate merit aid, your finances are not relevant.
If you are getting need aid, then yes it will reset year to year.
