Observations about state universities

So I've been reading college review websites (which I only take with a grain of salt). And on each state university page, I've noticed a pattern.

Negative reviews from out-of-state/transfer students who complain that:
-"you'll only have a social life if you go Greek and drink"
-"students are cliquish, closed-minded, and only hang out with high school friends"
-"it's impossible to make new friends after freshman year"

What do you think about this? And, to any CCers who are currently attending a state university: is this true?

(Repeat: I only take these reviews with a grain of salt, meaning I don't judge based on them.)

There may be some large universities where many people hang out with the kids from their own high school, sometimes throughout all four years of college. That may cause people from other states to be left out.

At top privates people only hang with prep school and rich freinds from wherever they summer. They all drink a lot and are cliquish and close-minded. They have good parties.
