Obsessed with self studying???

How come people in this site are obsessed with rushing courses in the summer? In the threads I’ve seen everyone says that they’re self studying an AP course. I’m confused, summer time is to relax and I wouldn’t like to study another subject along with my classes

I am not sure either…Here is what I think:

  1. If you self study and take the AP class and get a 4 or 5, then you can get additional credit in college.
    There are some courses where this may be feasible, but others where it makes no sense (lab science).

2)They think it will “look better” to colleges…but colleges don’t really look at your AP tests for admissions since not everyone has AP courses and often you take AP tests after you get admitted.

What colleges like to see is that you do something productive with your time…be it working, learning or whatever…not just relaxing.

Agreed, although I would add that doing something other than (or in addition to) learning would make you potentially mentally fresher come August/September, and few colleges are looking to admit a class comprised entirely of academic drones.

Personally I’m always bored over the summer (parents don’t let me do anything) and enjoy learning which is why I’m considering self-studying over the summer. I simply don’t like wasting my whole summer away without having achieved anything. Lol …I like pushing myself instead. Also AP exams are a cheaper alternative to regular college courses and many try to take as much advantage of that as possible.

@awesome7 I mostly hang out with friends and volunteer during summer. Where I live DE classes are free. Someone who takes AP classes won’t graduate with as much credits as someone who does DE. I plan to graduate with 60 or more credits. It’s impossible to do that with AP classes. Personally, I just see so many things better than getting ahead self studying.

@awesome7

It’s good that you do some self-studying in the summer, just be careful about getting capped. I know a couple kids that did a bunch of AP’s for credit, only to find out that they had too many (colleges usually have caps on the number of AP’s accepted).

@Bobbybob444555 while it may be difficult it is possible to get that many credits with AP exams lol…I wanted to do DE but it was too expensive for my parents since it’s not completely free where I live…but yea I agree that there are better things to do with your time…

@RMNiMiTz thanks for the advice…I’ve checked before & as far as I’m concerned there’s only a limit on the number of credits u complete in person at my possible future school to graduate rather than a cap on credits through other sources…

@awesome7 Yeah, students that are in public school where I live get free DE.
