Hi, I’m a senior from the Bay Area. I’m super interested in Occidental–I toured it a few months back and had an amazing time. I really want to pursue a career in film, and I’d love to go to Oxy, but I’m having trouble getting a grasp of just how extensive their film program is. Really the only official page I can find for it online is the school’s.
Does anyone have any information about the quality of Occidental’s Media Arts and Culture Program? Thanks so much!
I was looking for the same answer! Anyone can help?
We’re visiting Oxy next month from TX Just to meet with Prof Fox and talk about the Media Arts & Culture Program.
Here’s what we’ve gathered so far:
- lots of support for the film program among the student body. The senior comps are packed every year (public screening of the short films).
- MAC students pick between two tracks: Studies and production
- study abroad opportunities at FAMU, famous Czech film school in Prague
- one CC’er told me that his mom has relatives in the industry and they said Oxy has a good rep
- You can take some film classes (and other art classes) at ArtCenter at no cost. It’s the night classes, but some of the course offerings are quality film classes (we’re meeting with an ArtCenter counselor also)
- Prof Brody Fox is extremely helpful and enthusiastic about the MAC program. He graduated from USC SCA, and is the MAC director.

You may also want to reach out to @fcpwiz who has given me useful info on the MAC program. I think he’s an entering frosh next year.
