Oxy's Theater and Interdisciplinary Writing majors

Does anyone know how they compare to nearby Loyola Marymount University’s theater and screenwriting majors? I know LMU is more renowned for their theater and film department, but Oxy has a better international reputation. I just haven’t heard much of their curriculum in these programs.

Would it be a mistake to attend Oxy for theater? Is that something they don’t prioritize?

And to be less specific, a comparison to any other California performing arts program that is well known, USC, UCLA, UC Irvine, etc would be helpful as well. I’ve applied to LMU because I know more about it than some other schools, but I’m doubting whether I’d fit the vibe of the school. I know Oxy has its roots in the presbyterian church but I doubt that plays as much of a role in the school as LMU’s Jesuit education does.

Hoping someone chimes in. S19 is interested in screenwriting and film (MAC) at Oxy.

If nobody answers by next month, I’ll provide some feedback after our visit/tour on Apr 24. I’ll definitely ask about screenwriting.

Or you can lookup Broderick Fox, MAC director, who’s very helpful.

@QrtyUiop
I’m curious if you’ve heard/found any info about the screenwriting (Interdisciplinary Writing) major. If not, then I’ll wait til our visit.

@romns116 Unfortunately I haven’t. I’d love to hear from you about the program once you visit if you don’t mind.

@QrtyUiop will do. I did meet a current MAC student (not on CC) who plans to be a screenwriter post-grad. He spoke very highly of the professors and their passion to develop screenwriters. He also said there’s a very active Oxy Entertainment Alumni Group in LinkedIn

@QrtyUiop We did the Oxy tour and met with faculty from the MAC program. We knew early on it wasn’t a good fit for S19. We didn’t get a chance to ask about the interdisciplinary writing minor. Sorry.

One plus about the Oxy majors/minors: they not only allow you, but they encourage you to create your own major/minors. Before our visit, I emailed the director of Interdisciplinary Writing and she said there were many options when crafting a writing major/minor.
