October 2009 SAT Critical Reading

@kmtt,
same… I didn’t have any evidence too support any of the answers…

I agree with SkyHigh

Nikhil’s parents listened to him.

It was independent, frugal means that you’re careful with the way you spend your money. The parents were anxious because they hadn’t given the child any money which would have been a means of tying her down, limiting her independence. She was independent and thus they were anxious.

He was surprised that the work was done so easily. I was very happy to see the Nikhil passage because I read it just this summer. He thought it’d be a much longer process because he had mentally dragged out the process as it was something he’d wanted to do for so long.

the answer choice was “he was annoyed because there was so much work involved.”

hmmm was the answer “he was surprised?”

whats the explain the reaction one?
can someone give the question plz?

I loved that passage… I wasted time by reading it several times, and then almost ran out of time at the end. Haha.

Looking back, I find “independent” is right, because the passage said that
the parents were surprised, but her mother knew the truth… sth financial stuff binds sb… So her parents must have felt uneasy because they were expecting some binding effect followed by their financial aid… She was free from the parents because she was INDEPENDENT…

vrushank93, it was in the passage where this girl decided to work in publishing and her parents were like “all her friends are getting married or doing work with the poor” to express their perplexion (aka reaction) to her daughter’s choice

I put surpisd. Seemed most fitting.

what do you think the curve for 800 will be assuming you answered all the questions?
-2 for 800?

What was the answer to the last question for the geologist passage? What would Mercator have thought if he were alive today? Some of the options were historical speculation, age-old assumption, etc.

I think it’ll be -1 at the most. This one was fairly simple

the second question on the short native american passage…

something about the last sentence and ceremonies texts?

I think it was a pretty easy question but I really overthought it and might have gotten tricked…

Historical speculation?

i put historical speculation. it sounded like a dumb answer but i was trying to be literal.

this is depressing reading these 15 pages so far… whats the curve range for 800?

and watd u guys get for :
either “intense and something like uncontrolled” or “intermittant and nonsensical”

For the problem comparing the remarks of Michelangelo’s tutor to the story of Giotto, I thought that they were most closely related to Cianbue’s invitation to Giotto.

Rationale:

Michelangelo’s tutor’s admiration for his student lends itself to his remark that Michelangelo was better than him.
Cianbue’s admiration for Giotto leads to his invitation to Giotto to become his pupil.

and watd u guys get for the historical speculation 1. i think i put something else

For the second to last of great artists one I put quality inherited in certain groups.
