October 2009 SAT Critical Reading

Why can’t it be accusatory? Isn’t the author trying to say that maybe there is purposefully a connection between the young artist with the sheep and all the other artists throughout the years?

It said Nikhail was frustrated with the situation HE made. The answer never blamed his mother.

Accusatory is also way to harsh of diction. Wry captures the levity of the quotation.

Wry-“amusing and ironic: combining or expressing a mixture of mild amusement and irony”

Fits much better.

Are you sure? I don’t remember it saying “not” at all.

you are definitely right beinghere

Nikhil was frustrated, although he could not be mad at his mom; the author is trying to show that he was “frustrated at the complexities of the situation that HE created.”

wat was the 2nd to last 1 in the art passage asking? every1 says its E but wat was the question??

Cubs, I’m actually fairly certain it is accusatory.
He is accusing the history writers of mispresenting history. He’s being sarcastic when he says coincidentally. An alternative could be wry I suppose, if you interpret him as being a bit sarcastic in a comical way. No way in hell he was inquisitive or puzzled though.

Can anyone provide context to the question about “hobble”?

Yeah it was definitely “frustrated”.

I got “hobble” and “wry”.

um, ‘genius was NOT inherent to specific groups’ has two meanings. it can mean that some groups do not have genius, or that it’s not that certain groups are not born with genius…
ugh ambiguity.

E definitely said that it was not intrinsic to those groups; and the question was about the comparison between aristocrats and women, which the author uses to show that greatness (since genius is apparently very different) is not confined to specific groups.

i agree the questionmark

It was about a politician trying to worsen her opponents chances of winning. Hobble was the correct answer.

anyone put synthesize for 2 blank SC?

The author of the artist passage was definitely wry.

Talking about artists “lacking a flock of sheep” is obviously supposed to be funny, yet it is also sarcastic and mocking: “wry” sounds good to me.

Yes synthesize and crystallize was correct.

yeah second to last one of the artist one was E pretty sure.

in the one about that book about planets, what was the author’s reaction to the anticipated views of Jupiter etc most comparable to? i said like singer looking at an arrangement of another song. pls be right

I got compromised and coalesced… Anyone else?

I put child finding a lost toy.

thats what i put chair2
