October 2010 CR SAT Thread

boston, did it say the authors conclusion? i remember it being (possibly incorrectly) what can you conclude from the passage?

@icedcoffee
i guess it is up to whether or not you consider the idea of being conquered and ruled over as taken advantage of. it has the connotation of negativity, but you are right that it is not outrightly stated

@jetscm4ev: it did say what can you conclude from the passage, but the author’s main point is always in the concluding sentence, which very clearly stated that the trojan war’s existence was “plausible and cannot be disproved.” the answer that it probably happened because it cannot be disproved is therefore correct.
Decorum was only an answer on ONE question, correct?

I thought Thy was basing his work on Greece records…it stated that he used Greece records to build his work or something like that. maybe i’m referring to another question, idk…but i dont think it was archeological because the author states that thy might have done archaeological work but there is no proof of it.

Nvm, I think it was what you can conclude from the passage. My point still stands though.

Last part of passage 2 - suggesting alternatives.
can anyone explain? T_T

^boston: i agree. Now will someone PLEASE confirm that decorum was only an answer one time?!

@jetscmvf I see how you’re thinking that it’s illogical that it probably occurred because there was no evidence. I thought this initially too. However, CR does not test logic. Everything can be supported directly or indirectly by the text. In this case, the last sentence/paragraph clearly supports the fact that it probably occurred because there were no evidence.

@jr5570
definitely only an answer once to do with some weird population of high class

I still want to know,

If I missed 5~6 on CR, what would I get?

was this test particularly hard? would curve be high or low?

Does anyone remember a question, about the jump rope passage, that asked for a situation which is analagous to a girl showing off her jump rope tricks? I believe the answer has somethign to do with a dancer flustering to her friends?

@awdrgyjil: Thank you!!! the consolidated list has it twice so i was slightly confused/worried…

@awdrygl
are we talking about the same thing?
you do realize that from history, the whole Trojan operation was an alliance among various Greek city-states, not one Greek nation conquering the others and forcing their peoples to fight the trojans
and undoubtedly, the weaker nations would have BENEFITTED from the trojan war since they would have been on the “winning” side and reaped the bounties of military victory

@user2134
it was about a skater doing tricks to fluster the competition, definitely the right answer

I dont think it was it probably happened because the author was very negative about the whole situation. he claimed that it was a paradox that people believed in the trojan war although there is no proof. so i thought it was probably not because there is no documental evidence to prove it.

I loved the no evidence question.

It’s like a test of mentality.

How you can read what other people say and disagree with them, without distorting their opinion upon expressing it as, well, potentially your own.

Take the SAT completely cold and not let it affect you.

~720

@user- I think that was an ice-skater doing tricks to fluster her opponents, but yeah basically what you said.
