October 2010 - International SAT

did anybody here order the question&answer service from collegeboard?

The soliloquy was an SC question, but the correct answer for that one was inquisition.

Janny, the correct answer for which? The number line? Because I am pretty sure I got the letter C which was halfway between -1 and -2…

Major Quest: B:Unknown quantity or…something with quantity (I chose it as well)

Eva: Same. something around -1.5

@Eva : the number line one. I don’t remember exactly which the letter was but pretty sure it was -1.5

are u sure it was C??? I thought I picked A @_@

Oh good, good. I was dying inside just a little bit because of the possibility that I had gotten that one wrong. lol

I agree with janny i think i put A.

I can’t be sure, of course, but I know I picked whichever letter corresponded to -1.5

It could have very well been A

Ok I am confused are you guys talking about the one with the number line that said which point on the number line multiplied by point b or whatever would equal blah blah blah or are you guys talkin about a different question

gregbob, we are talking about the number line, although I am not sure what operation we were supposed to perform.

Yeah. Talking about that one.
The number given was from -1 to 0. For it to equal 1, it should be mutiplied by a number lower than -1. There was only one option, so yeah

yah i think it was point A.

@greg : yup, the numberline question.
Eva, u made me dying inside a little bit this time =)

again, did anyone order the question&answer service from collegeboard???

We weren’t given the option to order question&answer service… weird =</p>

Can someone help compile a list of consolidated math answers for the fill in the blanks?

something about 25% of x
11.

find the value of y if 13 < x < 14 and x is 5/2y + 3 or something? my answer was 9.75

largest distance between two circles = 14 (could be question 14)
14.
15.

fee of pines - fee of something = 1200 (could be question 15)

9/25

computer chips multiplying –> 256

I remember there was at least one 8 somewhere in there. Lets try to get this going

Janny, I am sorryyy. I never remember the answers by the letter.

I was contemplating on doing it, but decided $20 was too much just so I can see where I had made mistakes. Plus having that report won’t help my score in any way so…

Math

I had the same answer

again, I had the same answer

Yes, 1200.

9.25 for sure

There was one about angles something. X was equal to 72, I believe.
I remember x was equal to 2y. Thus 3y angles + x = 3y + 2y = 5y.
180/5 = 36. X = 2y = 72.
At least that’s how I remember it.

Can we discuss writing questions?
Do any of you remember the last 10-min one?

The one about background and snowy hills? or the one with museum? or the one with the answer being ‘armed’?

yeah, the fee is quite a bunch so i didn’t order it either. however, still curious about what my mistakes were =( for example, want to know if I got the question with shocking truth and unusual way right :P

haha, same here. Still my curiosity is not worth my $20 that can be used towards other college application expenses.

Fear of punishment or recognition of guilt?

Well I choose fear of punishment. Simply because it’s the 24th question & should have been difficult. Recogntion of guilt was too simple. And most importantly the question reffered to the 2ND last paragraph. In which she realized her mother would be furious when she found out that her daughter stole the box. And she was in for a good week ( afraid of punishment)

the last paragraph talks about recognition of guilt when she went back to the house and put the box back.

Just my theory

I have a question. I know that a completely off-topic essay gets a 0 score but what happens to just a little bit off ones? I’m worried about this because I was supposed to write an essay about adapting to new surroundings and whether we should retain our old habits or accept the new changes and become assimilated into the new culture or something like that. Instead I wrote about how changes in our societies and in its rules are historically inevitable and that we should strive hard to make the best out of these changes.

I guess I adhered to the main theme (change and its necessity) but not necessarily in the context of getting used to the new environment, like in the case of the student on his first day at the new school trying to get along with his peers. Will this reflect badly on my score or is this not much of a big deal? Has anyone had a similar experience?

@ Minhas :I don’t think she put the box back due to fear of punishment. It’s mentioned in the paragraph that she would not give the box to her mom because she knew her mom would be displeased and punish her some way. –> fear of punishment is the reason why she would not give the box to her mom, not for putting the box back. In the end, she decided that her mother didn’t need the box any more and put the box back. So I chose recognition of misjudgement or sth like that.
