October 2010 - International SAT

Oh well. It was a weird test. Best of luck everyone

@ zhuangzi. there was no aunt mentioned in the passage. The characters were: a narrator (female), her mother and father, her brothers, and a woman who was the wife of the mother’s late stepfather.

The girl mentions how she feels the gaze of the woman on her back i.e. she assumes the woman knows she stole the box. If this is true, why hasn’t the woman done anything? If she has fear of punishment she would have returned the box right away. Instead, after the woman is inside the house and her parents aren’t watching she returns the box because she feels guilt. She doesn’t think that her mother cares so much about the box that it would justify theft.

Anyhow, we’ve come to an impasse here, so it’s best to move on :)

yes indeed haha. we’ll see.

On the writing section the paragraph one with the president or whatever talkin about agriculture, the very last question said like what is the best sentence to insert. I narrowed it down to either fame came to him slowely or farmers started to pick up on his practices quickly… what did you choose…

what was the answer to this question in the writing section?

A. … appears a range of mountains still covered in snow.
B. …a range of mountains appears still covered in snow.
C. … is a range of mountains still covered in snow.

so…did anyone get BBBCBBBB? 3rd B was central, peripheral, and I forgot what the 4th one is.

^nope… i didn’t get that many b’s in a row

@boozer: it’s C and the verb of A is appear without a “s”

hey anybody choose intricate & suitable instead of complex & involved? I think the prior one is the answer, isn’t it? omg… somebody helps me

“7. Vocab: mechanics – didn’t anyone write complex&involved? it was something like because it was complex, self-mechanics cannot handle anything more involved than simple things …
Yes, the logic behind it --although awkward-- only makes sense when it is “complex & involved.” The question said that the “mechanics could not do anything more _____ than basic repairs”, meaning that the blank should be sth to do with difficult activity. Straightforward and suitable do not make any sense.”
Djp has already make this question clear, catonthestreet

@IPACMAN

There the first 6 were BBBCBB but not many bs after the sixth question.

@gregbob

Yeah i know charllie was humorously skeptical
but there was one question in which the options were meticulous and unruly
And then there was one question about what the author thinks about charlie. Option E was indifferent

@tunganh

The options were intricate & suitable
Complex & straightforward

That was djp explanation and I totally agree with him. I remembered there is a synonym of complex to pair with involved :-?
Btw, does anyone remember the “conundrum” sentence completion?

the math question about y-intercept when moved 2 units to the right… do you guys remember what was the initial y-intercept? was it 0 an and when moved 2 units to the right it became -2 or something like that?

i am with complex and straightforward

@tunganh : hello man, I guess we know each other. ;)) Well, I’m quite sure the answer for that quest was conundrum. I don’t quite remember it meaning but I’m sure that the other four choices were all wrong. :D

Btw, for the other question, I chose complex and involved. :-?

“the math question about y-intercept when moved 2 units to the right… do you guys remember what was the initial y-intercept? was it 0 an and when moved 2 units to the right it became -2 or something like that?”

But if you move to the right, and we are talking about the y-intercept (aka the point where he have a 0 value for x), and the line in the drawing didn’t have any negative values for y, then how can it change from positive to negative? I remember spending a lot of precious time on this one >_< I think ultimately the y-intercept remained unchanged. Either that or it was somewhere from 0 to 2. :S What did you guys put down for that one?

@Joshuakitty- THANKYOU U MADE MY DAY

@Eva: i think it’s the graph to be translated 2 units to the right. so if u drew the new graph, the y-intercept would become -2.

i wonder, if you got 6 wrong in CR, what score you may expect? can it be over 700? omg… can i be able to apply for college…
