October 2014 ACT: Scores Thread

Composite: 35
English: 35
Math: 35
Reading: 34
Science: 35
Writing: 8 (a little disappointing, I thought I had a solid essay. Maybe it’s because I didn’t finish)

I truthfully have no idea how I did so well. I was expecting a 31 or a 32 based off from practice exams from the red book. Don’t ever feel discouraged because you aren’t doing well on the practice exams, just don’t be unnerved on the test day.

I was honestly not expecting this. This was my second time, and I only retook the test so I would have the writing portion (my first time didn’t include writing). I expected my score to go down based on the practice tests I took… Like Zeppelin7 says practice exams aren’t everything.

C: 29 (+0)

E: 32 (-2)

M: 26 (+0)

R: 34 (+3)

S: 25 (-1)

…

C: 35
E: 34
M: 34
R: 34
S: 36
W: 12

C: 32(+0)
E: 33(+3)
R: 33(+1)
M: 35(+3)
S: 26(-8)
Yeah I thought science was going to be easy so I panicked and ended up leaving 6 blank.
Also looks like essays are being released by time zones. People on the east coast getting theirs first. I’m in Texas.

Third time’s a charm, I guess.

Has anyone else still not gotten their scores back? :-S

@abcninja Lots of people have not received scores yet. Waiting it a pain, but they will come!

Hey, can anyone give me some tips for the reading section?

@Arshaanm Its all about being able to read fast. There are no “tricks”, every answer is directly in the reading, don’t imply anything. Some questions are tricky but u can find everything in the passage. Do practice tests if ur a slow reader to help u build speed and ull do great

Thanks for getting back to me!

@arshaanm not a trick per se, but lots of practice really does help. Over the course of 14 months, my son moved his reading score from a 20 to a 35.

He did literally every practice test he could find, and spent time analyzing each missed question. He also frankly worked with a tutor to help him in reading an English as they were he weakest subjects.

In the end, he turned his worst subsection into his best while pulling up his composite from a 25 to a 33.

Big gains are possible, but they come from big blocks of effort.

State (country if international): New York
Colleges applying to: Princeton, Vanderbilt, Fordham, Cornell, Catholic University of America
Major:Undecided

I think it’s really helpful to just not get too stressed about it :)

Has anyone else not received scores? I chatted with the ACT and they said they are scored in random order and they are not done yet, nor do they post on days other then Wednesday and Friday. Thanks…

Still waiting here as well. (International)

Writing score finally came out

C: 35
E: 36
M: 34
R: 36
S: 35
W: 11 (E/W: 35)

Very happy but 1 point away from that 36 lol

Scores came out today.

C: 35

E: 36
M: 35
R: 33 (Kinda pizzled)
S: 35

Writing: 12/12 (Yeah Baby!)
E/W: 36 (IS THIS LIFE???)

Finally received scores…
Got 34.75, but nuked writing… (9…)
Should I retake for writing, or does writing do not matter at all?

@mscho527 I got basically the same score as you, 35. but an 8 on writing. Unless you plan on majoring in english or something, I wouldn’t. If you’re going into STEM or something, colleges (including top) just want to see that you’re avg. or above avg for your age.
